LOCTITE 382 Instant Adhesive is particularly suitable for electronics applications that require fast, localized bonding. Typical uses include tacking wires to coil forms, securing adjustable components against tampering and mounting standoffs, edge guides or stiffeners onto printed circuit boards.
The high-viscosity formulation remains within the intended bonding area more effectively than thin instant adhesives. This application control is useful around small electronic components, narrow PCB areas and vertical assemblies where excessive flow could contaminate adjacent contacts or functional surfaces.
LOCTITE 382 normally develops fixture strength within approximately 20 to 40 seconds, although the exact time depends on the substrate, joint gap, temperature and humidity. When used with a compatible LOCTITE accelerator, it can provide extremely rapid tacking for electronic components and production-line assemblies.
LOCTITE 382 Instant Adhesive bonds compatible metals, plastics and elastomers. Typical applications include wire and cable positioning, coil-form assembly, PCB stiffener attachment, electronic component reinforcement, plastic housing assembly, rubber seal bonding and small metal-part fixation.
Henkel lists compatibility with materials including steel, aluminum, ABS, rigid PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic plastic, neoprene and nitrile rubber. Difficult-to-bond polyolefins and other low-surface-energy plastics may also be bonded after treatment with LOCTITE SF 770 Primer.
The published maximum gap-filling capability is approximately 0.15 mm. Thin, close-fitting bond lines provide the fastest curing, while larger gaps generally increase fixture time. Manufacturers should validate the product using the actual substrate grade, surface treatment, joint geometry and operating environment.
The uncured product is a water-white to slightly cloudy ethyl-cyanoacrylate gel with a typical specific gravity of approximately 1.05 at 25°C. Its published Brookfield viscosity range is approximately 4,000 to 8,000 mPa·s, providing a high-viscosity application profile suitable for controlled dots and short beads.
Representative fixture times include approximately 20 to 50 seconds on degreased steel, 10 to 30 seconds on aluminum, 15 to 40 seconds on ABS and less than five seconds on neoprene or nitrile rubber under the specified laboratory conditions.
After 24 hours of curing at 22°C, published lap-shear strength ranges include approximately 18 to 26 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel and 11 to 19 N/mm² on etched aluminum. The cured adhesive also provides electrical insulation, including dielectric breakdown strength of approximately 25 kV/mm and volume resistivity of approximately 1 × 1016 Ω·cm.
Ensure all bonding surfaces are clean, dry and free from oil, grease, dust, moisture and loose contamination. Apply a small quantity of adhesive to one surface, assemble the components immediately and hold them accurately in position until fixture strength develops.
For accelerated wire tacking or component fixation, apply a compatible LOCTITE accelerator by spraying, brushing or dipping. Allow the solvent carrier to evaporate completely before dispensing the adhesive. Because accelerator solvents may affect certain plastics or coatings, compatibility testing should be completed before production use.
Avoid applying excessive adhesive because thick deposits can slow curing and may cause blooming around visible joints. Full chemical and solvent resistance continues developing for at least 24 hours after initial fixture. Store unopened containers in a dry refrigerated location between 2°C and 8°C.
