LOCTITE AA H3500 Acrylic Adhesive for Metal, Aluminum, Polycarbonate and Plastic Bonding

Category: Brand:
LOCTITE AA H3500 Acrylic Adhesive is a two-component methacrylate structural adhesive developed for high-strength bonding of metals and plastics. Component A is off-white, Component B is light yellow, and the mixed adhesive is light yellow. Its room-temperature cure, 1:1 mixing ratio and controlled viscosity suit industrial assembly processes requiring fast fixturing, high shear strength and impact resistance.

LOCTITE AA H3500 Acrylic Adhesive Benefits

LOCTITE AA H3500 Acrylic Adhesive combines multi-material adhesion with a practical two-part dispensing process. The components mix at 1:1 by volume and weight, supporting accurate preparation through a dual cartridge and static mixer. This balanced ratio reduces proportioning errors and helps create a consistent mixture.

At approximately 21°C, the adhesive provides an open time of seven to nine minutes. Fixture strength typically develops in 18 to 20 minutes, giving operators time to dispense, position and align components. Published final properties are measured after 24 hours of curing at 22°C.

The cured adhesive offers high shear and impact strength. Shore D hardness of approximately 79 produces a firm structural bond, while a glass-transition temperature near 104°C supports assemblies exposed to elevated temperatures. It is useful where screws, rivets or welding could add weight or concentrate stress.

Applications for LOCTITE AA H3500 Acrylic Adhesive

LOCTITE AA H3500 Acrylic Adhesive is designed for structural bonding of metals, engineering plastics and mixed-material assemblies. Potential applications include aluminum housings, metal brackets, plastic covers, equipment panels, appliance components, transportation assemblies and industrial enclosures.

Published lap-shear values include approximately 22.1 N/mm² on ground steel, 13.8 N/mm² on aluminum, 8.27 N/mm² on polycarbonate and 6.89 N/mm² for aluminum-to-polycarbonate assemblies. Aluminum-to-aluminum bonds tested at 80°C provide approximately 11 N/mm² under the stated conditions.

These figures are typical laboratory values rather than guaranteed specifications. Actual performance depends on substrate grade, surface treatment, joint geometry, bond-line thickness, mixing quality, curing temperature and service exposure. Qualification should use the actual materials and process.

LOCTITE AA H3500 Acrylic Adhesive Technical Properties

The mixed adhesive has a typical specific gravity of approximately 0.989 and viscosity near 9,846 mPa·s. Component A has a viscosity of approximately 29,000 mPa·s, while Component B is approximately 18,000 mPa·s. This profile supports controlled dispensing through compatible dual-cartridge equipment.

Representative cured properties include elongation at break of approximately 5.75% and aluminum-to-aluminum T-peel strength of approximately 33.3 N/mm. These characteristics support rigid structural joints requiring strong shear, peel and impact performance.

How to Apply LOCTITE AA H3500 Acrylic Adhesive

Clean all bonding surfaces and remove oil, grease, dust, moisture, oxidation and processing residue. Abrading compatible surfaces may improve durability, but loose particles must be removed before application.

Install the cartridge in a compatible dispenser, confirm that both components flow evenly and attach the correct static mixing nozzle. Discard the initial material to ensure a uniform ratio. Apply the adhesive, assemble the components within the open time and hold them securely until fixture strength develops.

Allow the joint to cure before applying structural loads. Store unopened packaging in a dry location between 8°C and 28°C. Do not return dispensed material to the original container because contamination can affect performance.
