Kyoritsu Chemical positions the XVL series as a soft, low-elasticity adhesive family developed for stress-relaxation applications. This design helps limit deformation during curing and reduces stress transfer to thin lenses, optical elements, engineering plastics, and other sensitive components. The clear appearance supports visual inspection of adhesive coverage and suits assemblies where an unobtrusive bond line is preferred.
The manufacturer’s XVL-90 technical table lists modified acrylate as the principal chemistry, a clear-liquid appearance, and typical viscosity of approximately 3,200 mPa·s. Standard UV curing is specified at about 4,500 mJ/cm². Published cured properties include Shore A hardness of 67, volume shrinkage of 5.6%, elastic modulus of 230 MPa, elongation at break of 361%, and refractive index of approximately 1.518. These values indicate a flexible cured profile with useful optical and mechanical performance.
The adhesive can be evaluated for fixing lenses, prisms, mirrors, filters, sensors, and optical elements used in cameras, measuring instruments, scanners, lighting modules, and communication equipment. It is also suitable for protecting optical fibers, reinforcing small plastic parts, and applying moisture-resistant coatings around selected optical or electronic components. Its transparency, controlled viscosity, and UV-triggered curing support precise dots, beads, fillets, and narrow bond lines.
The flexible cured structure helps absorb vibration, impact, thermal movement, and differences in expansion between joined materials. This can support stable optical alignment and reduce localized stress around fragile parts. Final performance depends on substrate grade, surface treatment, adhesive thickness, joint design, UV transmission, delivered energy, exposure time, service temperature, humidity, and mechanical loading.
Clean all bonding surfaces and remove oil, dust, moisture, fingerprints, release agents, polishing residue, and other contamination. Dispense a controlled amount onto one surface, position the components accurately, and expose the complete adhesive area to a validated UV source. Cure performance depends on energy reaching the bond line rather than lamp rating alone, so wavelength, intensity, distance, exposure time, adhesive thickness, and substrate transmission should be measured during process qualification.
Use light-blocking syringes, feed lines, reservoirs, and dispensing tips to protect uncured material from ambient UV exposure. Avoid contamination and never return dispensed adhesive to the original container. Before high-volume use, verify adhesion, cure depth, optical clarity, dimensional stability, thermal cycling, humidity resistance, vibration resistance, and long-term durability on representative assemblies.
