The adhesive is recommended for weld-bonded and rivet-bonded joints when required by the vehicle manufacturer. It should not replace specified welds, rivets, or mechanical fasteners unless the OEM repair procedure clearly permits a bond-only process. When faster processing is needed, cure can be accelerated with heat at up to 80°C for approximately 30 minutes, provided the heat is applied within the specified processing window.
A useful color-change feature improves process visibility. The mixed adhesive dispenses in a silver color and changes to purple as curing begins. This allows technicians to monitor the repair process more easily and helps confirm that the material has been mixed and activated correctly.
Always review the exact OEM repair procedure before starting work. Remove damaged parts and prepare all bonding surfaces according to the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions. Bare metal areas should be cleaned, abraded, and free from corrosion, oil, dust, moisture, paint residue, and other contamination that could reduce adhesion.
Install the cartridge in a compatible 3M applicator, attach the correct static mixing nozzle, and dispense a small amount until both components are flowing evenly. Apply a continuous adhesive bead to the prepared areas, assemble the replacement panel, and install the specified clamps, rivets, welds, or mechanical fasteners while the adhesive remains uncured. Tool any squeeze-out along the seam to create a complete seal.
Squeeze-type resistance spot welding may be performed through uncured adhesive where specified, but technicians should not MIG weld directly through the adhesive. After curing, complete the required refinishing and cavity-corrosion protection procedures before returning the vehicle to service.
