LOCTITE 3211 UV Adhesive requires no mixing, which simplifies preparation, reduces dispensing errors, and supports faster production cycles. When exposed to light of sufficient intensity and the correct wavelength, the adhesive fixtures rapidly, allowing bonded components to move through subsequent assembly stages with minimal delay. Its transparent-to-slightly-hazy appearance before curing develops into a clear bond line suitable for visible joints and applications requiring a clean finished appearance.
The flexible cured material helps manage vibration, impact, and differences in movement between joined substrates. This makes it especially useful for plastic components that may be sensitive to rigid bond lines. The product was primarily developed for bonding polycarbonate to itself without inducing stress cracking under typical molded stress levels, while also providing strong adhesion to glass, many plastics, and most metals.
Typical applications include polycarbonate housings, transparent covers, lenses, display components, tubing assemblies, small electronic devices, diagnostic components, and other precision parts where at least one substrate can transmit the required curing light. The product may also be considered for glass-to-plastic, plastic-to-metal, and glass-to-metal bonding after suitable application testing.
LOCTITE 3211 UV Adhesive has been qualified under Henkel’s ISO 10993 test protocol to assist product selection for medical device manufacturing. This qualification does not replace validation of the finished device, so manufacturers should test the complete assembly, sterilization process, operating environment, and intended use before production approval.
The uncured adhesive has a specific gravity of approximately 1.13 at 25°C, a refractive index of about 1.48, and a Brookfield viscosity range of 8,000 to 14,500 mPa·s under Henkel’s stated test conditions. Fixture time varies with lamp type, intensity, distance, bond-line gap, exposure period, and substrate light transmission. Henkel reports fixture times as fast as under five seconds on polycarbonate with selected high-intensity curing systems.
After the stated laboratory cure, typical cured properties include Shore D hardness of approximately 51, elongation at break of around 260%, tensile strength near 17 N/mm², and polycarbonate lap-shear strength of about 11 N/mm². These figures are typical values rather than guaranteed specifications and should be confirmed under the buyer’s actual process conditions.
Ensure all bonding surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease, dust, release agents, and processing residue. Dispense the adhesive through light-blocking feed lines, position the components, and expose the bond line to a validated UV or visible-light source. Henkel recommends a minimum bond-line intensity of 5 mW/cm², with exposure generally extending beyond the initial fixture time to achieve a reliable cure.
For complete curing of surfaces exposed to air, UV output in the 220 to 260 nm range is required. Higher intensity may be needed for dry, tack-free surface curing. Temperature-sensitive thermoplastics may require cooling during exposure. Plastic grades should always be checked for stress cracking, and bonded parts should cool before service loading.
