LOCTITE AA 366 Light Cure Adhesive uses urethane methacrylate chemistry and cures under ultraviolet radiation at 365 nm. Its single-component format simplifies preparation, reduces mixing errors, and supports controlled manual or automated dispensing. A typical viscosity of 5,000 to 10,000 mPa·s provides effective surface wetting while helping the adhesive remain inside the intended bond area.
Under suitable light intensity, the product provides very short fixture times. Henkel reports approximately five seconds on glass at 100 mW/cm² measured at 365 nm, while fixture time is no more than fifteen seconds at 6 mW/cm². A typical curing condition is twenty to thirty seconds at 100 mW/cm². These fast cycles can increase production output and reduce prolonged clamping.
The adhesive is designed for industrial glass and metal bonding, sealing, and coating. Typical applications include unitizing electrical devices, assembling appliance components, attaching decorative parts, and bonding steel pins to glass. It may also suit selected glass-to-metal and glass-to-glass assemblies when the joint allows sufficient curing light to reach the material.
At least one substrate should transmit the required radiation for UV processing. For shadowed areas or opaque assemblies, LOCTITE SF 7649 Activator provides a secondary curing option. Henkel reports minimum lap-shear strength of 13.5 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel at zero gap after curing with activator on both surfaces for twenty-four hours at 22°C.
Typical uncured properties include a specific gravity of 1.06 at 25°C and medium Brookfield viscosity. After UV curing, the material has typical Shore D hardness of 45, dielectric breakdown strength of 30 kV/mm, and volume resistivity of 2 × 10¹³ Ω·cm. Published tensile strength for a steel pin bonded to glass is approximately 10 N/mm² under the specified curing conditions.
These figures are typical laboratory data rather than guaranteed purchase specifications. Actual performance depends on lamp intensity, wavelength, distance, exposure time, bond-line gap, substrate transmission, surface preparation, and service conditions. Production trials should confirm fixture speed, bond strength, appearance, and environmental resistance.
Clean all bonding surfaces and remove oil, grease, dust, moisture, and loose contamination. Protect the adhesive from unnecessary daylight and artificial light during storage and dispensing, and use black feed lines with automated equipment. Dispense the required quantity, position the components, and expose the bond line to a validated UV source.
Henkel recommends at least 5 mW/cm² at the bond line, with total exposure generally four to five times the fixture time. Dry curing of exposed surfaces normally requires approximately 100 mW/cm², and radiation near 250 nm is needed for complete curing of air-exposed surfaces. Provide cooling for temperature-sensitive thermoplastics and test plastic grades for stress cracking before production approval.
