LOCTITE FREKOTE 700-NC Mold Release Agent Performance

Unlike conventional sacrificial release products that require frequent application, FREKOTE 700-NC chemically forms a micro-thin release interface on the mold. The coating provides repeated release performance while helping minimize mold fouling, dimensional change, and contamination of the finished component. This can reduce cleaning frequency, shorten maintenance interruptions, and improve consistency during repeated molding cycles.

The uncured product is a clear, colorless liquid with a typical specific gravity between 0.755 and 0.764 at 25°C. Henkel lists an application-temperature range from approximately 13°C to 135°C and cured thermal stability up to 400°C. These characteristics allow the release agent to be applied to room-temperature molds as well as heated tooling, provided the complete process has been validated for the mold material and resin system.

Typical applications include aerospace composite parts, automotive body panels, marine components, sporting goods, resin-cast products, industrial covers, decorative surfaces, and complex molded components requiring high slip during demolding.

The high-gloss release film is especially useful when the molded component must reproduce a smooth tool surface. It can also support parts with deep draws, curved profiles, undercuts, or difficult geometry where excessive demolding force could damage the component or mold. Because resin formulations and mold surfaces differ, production users should test release performance, surface appearance, paintability, bonding compatibility, and cycle life on representative components.

Applying LOCTITE FREKOTE 700-NC Mold Release Agent

Clean and dry the mold thoroughly before application. Remove resin residue, oil, grease, dust, old release coatings, polishing compounds, and other contamination. Heavily contaminated molds may require a dedicated FREKOTE mold cleaner or controlled light abrasion. New, porous, or repaired fiberglass and epoxy molds may also require an appropriate FREKOTE mold sealer before the release agent is applied.

Apply a thin, uniform, continuous film by spraying, brushing, or wiping with a clean lint-free cloth. When spraying, use dry air or a suitable airless system and maintain adequate workplace ventilation. Henkel recommends two to three initial coats, allowing approximately five to ten minutes between coats so the solvent can evaporate. Avoid repeatedly wiping an area while the coating remains wet because this may disturb film uniformity.

Allow the final coat to cure for approximately 15 to 20 minutes at 22°C before beginning production. The official product page lists approximately five minutes of drying time between coats and about 20 minutes for full cure at 20°C. For best initial conditioning, an additional light coat may be applied after the first few molding cycles. Later touch-up coats should normally be limited to areas where release performance begins to decline.

Handling, Storage, and Process Safety

FREKOTE 700-NC is solvent-based and flammable, so it must be used with appropriate ventilation, ignition control, protective equipment, and workplace procedures. Closed molds, including rotational-molding systems, should not be sealed until the solvent has evaporated completely and all vapor has been ventilated from the mold cavity. The product should not be used around pure oxygen, oxygen-rich systems, chlorine, or strong oxidizing substances.

The material is moisture-sensitive. Keep the package tightly sealed when it is not being used and store unopened containers in a dry location between approximately 8°C and 21°C. Protect the product from contamination, excessive moisture, heat, sparks, flames, and incompatible chemicals.
