The product uses an amine active ingredient carried in isopropanol. The active ingredient concentration is approximately 1.7% to 2.3%, while the typical specific gravity is 0.8 at 25°C. With a viscosity of approximately 1 mPa·s at 20°C, the liquid spreads easily across exposed adhesive and prepared surfaces. Typical drying time is no more than 30 seconds, supporting fast processing in manual, semi-automatic, and production-line applications.
When tested with LOCTITE 495 on steel, the published solidification time is no more than 30 seconds. Actual fixture time depends on the selected instant adhesive, substrate, joint geometry, adhesive quantity, temperature, and application method. Production users should validate the complete bonding process on representative components before approving operating parameters.
LOCTITE SF 712 Cyanoacrylate Adhesive Activator is especially useful for securing wires or coils to printed circuit boards. It can also support the mounting of stand-offs, edge guides, board stiffeners, and other small electronic components. Another common application is tamper-proofing adjustable components by rapidly curing exposed cyanoacrylate around the adjustment point after the required setting has been confirmed.
The activator is not an adhesive and should not be mixed directly with liquid cyanoacrylate. Instead, it is applied as a separate processing aid. Post-activation helps cure exposed adhesive after parts have been positioned, while surface activation can accelerate bonding on prepared parts before the instant adhesive is dispensed.
For post-activation, apply the selected LOCTITE cyanoacrylate adhesive to the parts and complete the assembly. Apply SF 712 over all exposed adhesive by spray or drop. Henkel typically recommends one drop of activator for each exposed drop of adhesive. Allow the joint to remain undisturbed until adequate handling strength develops.
For surface activation, clean contaminated parts before treatment. Apply one coating by spray, brush, or dipping, then allow the solvent to evaporate completely to avoid entrapment inside the joint. Apply the instant adhesive immediately after drying and within approximately 45 seconds. Reapply the activator when a longer delay occurs.
LOCTITE SF 712 is highly flammable and must be used with suitable ventilation, ignition control, personal protection, and workplace procedures. The solvent may affect certain plastics or coatings, so compatibility testing is required. Do not use it in pure oxygen, oxygen-rich systems, or with chlorine and strong oxidizing materials.
Store unopened containers in a dry, dark location between 8°C and 21°C. Review the official Henkel LOCTITE SF 712 product page and the official LOCTITE SF 712 technical data sheet before use.
