Henkel describes the product as a translucent solid hot melt with high initial strength and a long open time. The current product page lists an open time of approximately eight minutes, giving operators useful time to position larger parts before the adhesive sets. After joining, physical cooling provides early handling strength while atmospheric and substrate moisture begin the secondary chemical cure.
Typical data include a softening point of approximately 65°C and Brookfield viscosity near 10,000 mPa·s at 130°C. Henkel recommends a working temperature of 100°C to 140°C in the melting container and at the application roller. Recommended coating weight is approximately 50 to 400 g/m², depending on substrate absorbency, geometry, surface condition, and performance requirements.
TECHNOMELT PUR 4663 Reactive Hot Melt Adhesive is intended for flat lamination, general assembly, bonding wooden parts, and gluing textiles and plastics. Typical uses include furniture panels, interior parts, decorative laminates, wooden frames, textile-covered components, plastic panels, appliance assemblies, and manufactured parts requiring rapid handling with stronger long-term performance than a conventional non-reactive hot melt.
The adhesive can be applied with heated cartridge equipment, tank melters, rollers, nozzles, or other validated systems for reactive polyurethane hot melts. Surface cleanliness, application temperature, coating weight, assembly pressure, open time, and moisture availability all influence the final bond. Production testing should include the actual substrates, surface treatments, cycle time, humidity, water exposure, solvents, and mechanical loading.
Condition the substrates and production area within the recommended room temperature of approximately 18°C to 35°C and relative humidity of 30% to 60%. Heat the adhesive within the specified processing range and avoid prolonged exposure to excessive temperature. Apply a uniform layer, join the parts within the open time, and maintain enough pressure for complete contact without forcing all adhesive from the joint.
Final chemical curing normally requires approximately two to five days, depending on substrate permeability, moisture content, adhesive quantity, room conditions, and joint geometry. Nonporous materials may slow curing because less moisture reaches the adhesive. Confirm handling strength and final performance through representative production trials.
Reactive hot melt equipment should be protected from moisture and cleaned according to Henkel and machine-manufacturer instructions. Henkel recommends periodic flushing with compatible TECHNOMELT PUR cleaners to reduce internal residue and gel build-up. Application wheels, rolls, nozzles, hoses, and exposed machine surfaces should be maintained before deposits cure.
The product contains diphenylmethane diisocyanate. Use effective extraction, suitable protective equipment, trained operators, and the current safety data sheet when melting and applying it. Do not exceed the recommended processing temperature. Store unopened packaging tightly closed in a cool, dry place. The stated shelf life is generally 12 months, while the 2 kg container is listed for up to nine months.
