LOCTITE 3703 UV-Curing Acrylic Adhesive is a one-component, medium-viscosity structural adhesive developed for rapid bonding of rigid and flexible PVC to polycarbonate. The translucent bone-white-to-beige paste also provides excellent adhesion to glass, many engineering plastics, and most metals. Its fast light-curing performance, flexible cured structure, thixotropic application control, and useful gap-filling capability make it suitable for industrial assemblies that require high production speed and dependable shock-absorbing performance.
LOCTITE 3703 UV-Curing Acrylic Adhesive is based on acrylated urethane technology and cures through exposure to suitable ultraviolet or visible light. Because the product is supplied as a ready-to-use single component, manufacturers do not need to measure resin and hardener or manage mixing-ratio errors. This simplifies dispensing, reduces preparation time, and supports consistent adhesive application in manual and automated production environments.
The adhesive has a typical Brookfield viscosity range of approximately 18,000 to 35,000 mPa·s at 25°C. Its thixotropic paste consistency helps the material remain where it is dispensed, reducing migration before curing. This characteristic is especially useful for vertical surfaces, curved parts, component edges, irregular joints, and assemblies where accurate adhesive placement is essential.
LOCTITE 3703 UV-Curing Acrylic Adhesive combines rapid curing with a flexible bond line that helps distribute loads and absorb shock. It is particularly effective when rigid or flexible PVC must be joined to polycarbonate and when the joint requires gap filling of up to approximately 0.25 mm.
Under specified test conditions, the adhesive can reach fixture strength in ten seconds or less when exposed to 365 nm light at 6 mW/cm². Cure speed and final depth depend on light intensity, wavelength, exposure duration, bond-line thickness, and the transparency of the substrate through which the light passes.
After curing under the manufacturer’s stated conditions, LOCTITE 3703 provides a typical tensile strength of approximately 13 N/mm² and elongation at break of about 85%. This combination supports a strong but flexible adhesive layer that can accommodate movement and mechanical shock more effectively than a highly rigid bonding material.
Typical block-shear values include approximately 18 N/mm² for polycarbonate-to-polycarbonate joints, 16 N/mm² for polycarbonate-to-PVC joints, and 7 N/mm² for polycarbonate-to-aluminum assemblies. Actual production performance depends on surface preparation, joint design, light exposure, substrate quality, and environmental conditions.
LOCTITE 3703 UV-Curing Acrylic Adhesive is suitable for transparent plastic assemblies, appliance components, electronic housings, display parts, lighting products, decorative components, medical-device parts, industrial equipment, and precision plastic-to-metal assemblies.
Typical applications include bonding flexible PVC components to polycarbonate housings, attaching glass parts to metal frames, fixing plastic windows, assembling clear covers, and joining parts that require both controlled gap filling and flexible load distribution. At least one substrate should normally transmit sufficient curing light to reach the adhesive.
Clean the bonding surfaces and remove oil, grease, dust, moisture, fingerprints, and release agents. Minimize exposure of the uncured adhesive to daylight, ultraviolet radiation, and strong artificial lighting. Henkel recommends dispensing the material through equipment fitted with black feed lines.
Apply a controlled amount to one surface, assemble the components immediately, and expose the joint to a validated UV or visible-light source. Temperature-sensitive thermoplastics may require cooling during curing, while crystalline or semi-crystalline plastics should be tested for stress cracking.
Store the unopened product in a dry location between approximately 8°C and 28°C unless the package label specifies otherwise. Before mass production, verify adhesion, curing depth, optical appearance, fixture time, and long-term durability using actual components.
LOCTITE 3703 UV-Curing Acrylic Adhesive provides an efficient solution for manufacturers seeking rapid curing, flexible structural performance, controlled paste dispensing, and reliable bonding of PVC, polycarbonate, glass, plastic, and metal components.
