LOCTITE 415 Instant Adhesive is a one-component, medium-viscosity cyanoacrylate developed for rapid and reliable bonding of close-fitting industrial components. It is particularly suitable for metal substrates while also providing useful adhesion to compatible rubber and plastic materials. The ultra-clear adhesive cures through contact with atmospheric moisture, eliminating the need for separate hardeners, component mixing, or external heating.
Its controlled viscosity offers a practical balance between surface wetting and dispensing accuracy. Compared with very-low-viscosity instant adhesives, it is less likely to flow away from the application area, making it suitable for controlled dots and narrow beads. The current Henkel product information lists gap filling of approximately 0.15 mm, while thin bond lines around 0.05 mm are recommended for optimum performance.
LOCTITE 415 Instant Adhesive is based on methyl cyanoacrylate chemistry. Published viscosity is approximately 900–1,500 mPa·s by cone-and-plate testing or 1,100–1,600 mPa·s by Brookfield testing at 25°C. Its typical specific gravity is approximately 1.1. These properties support accurate manual or automated dispensing on small metal, rubber, and plastic components.
Fixture speed varies with substrate, temperature, humidity, and bond gap. A general fixture time of approximately 20–40 seconds is listed. Representative fixture times include 30–60 seconds on degreased steel, 40–80 seconds on aluminum, under 10 seconds on neoprene and nitrile rubber, 20–50 seconds on ABS, and 30–90 seconds on PVC or polycarbonate. Full chemical and solvent resistance continues developing for at least 24 hours.
After curing for 24 hours at 22°C, published lap-shear strength is approximately 20–30 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel and 15–22 N/mm² on grit-blasted aluminum. Representative results are 6–20 N/mm² on ABS and PVC, 5–20 N/mm² on polycarbonate, and 5–15 N/mm² on neoprene or nitrile rubber. These are typical laboratory results rather than guaranteed values for every production assembly.
The cured adhesive also provides electrical-insulation properties, including typical dielectric-breakdown strength of approximately 25 kV/mm and volume resistivity between 2 × 10¹⁵ and 10 × 10¹⁵ Ω·cm. These characteristics can support selected electrical and electronic assemblies after the complete design has been validated under actual voltage, temperature, and environmental conditions.
LOCTITE 415 Instant Adhesive is suitable for metal fittings, pins, clips, brackets, electronic hardware, appliance components, instrument parts, rubber seals, plastic housings, decorative components, and precision industrial assemblies. It performs best on accurately matched parts subjected mainly to tensile or shear loading rather than severe peel, repeated impact, or highly flexible movement.
Compatible materials include steel, aluminum, zinc-treated metal, ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic resin, neoprene, and nitrile rubber. Difficult low-surface-energy plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene, and PTFE can be evaluated with LOCTITE SF 770 primer. Because plastics vary significantly in formulation, representative adhesion and stress-cracking tests should be completed before production approval.
Before applying LOCTITE 415 Instant Adhesive, clean both surfaces and remove oil, grease, dust, moisture, release agents, oxide residue, and loose contamination. A suitable cleaner such as LOCTITE SF 7070 may be used. Apply a small quantity to one bonding surface, assemble the parts immediately, and hold or clamp them until fixture strength develops.
Avoid excessive adhesive because thick deposits cure more slowly and may produce white blooming around the joint. Where curing is too slow because of a large gap or inactive surface, LOCTITE SF 7452 or SF 7455 activator may be evaluated. Activators can affect final bond strength, so the complete process should be tested before regular production.
Store unopened LOCTITE 415 Instant Adhesive in a dry location between approximately 2°C and 8°C. Do not return dispensed material to the original bottle. Unopened cyanoacrylate products should be refrigerated, but opened bottles should not be returned to refrigerated storage and should be used promptly for best performance. Wear suitable eye protection and gloves because instant adhesives bond skin and eyes rapidly.
For manufacturers requiring fast, transparent and controlled bonding, LOCTITE 415 Instant Adhesive provides strong metal adhesion, broad material compatibility, practical gap filling, electrical insulation, and convenient one-part processing.
