LOCTITE HY 4080 Hybrid Structural Adhesive combines the rapid handling characteristics of cyanoacrylate technology with the toughness of an acrylic structural adhesive. This hybrid design provides shear performance together with resistance to peel and impact loads. It suits assemblies where rigid adhesives may crack under vibration or where slower structural adhesives could limit output.
The product is supplied in a dual cartridge and mixes at a 1:1 ratio by volume. Using the dispensing gun and static mixing nozzle improves ratio accuracy, reduces mixing errors, and creates a consistent bead. The mixed material is opaque to slightly yellow. Its ten-minute on-part life gives operators time to dispense, position, and clamp components before fixture strength develops.
This adhesive is designed for structural bonding across industrial substrates. Typical applications include metal brackets, plastic housings, composite panels, appliance parts, transportation components, electronic enclosures, and general industrial assemblies. It can bond steel, aluminum, ABS, polycarbonate, PVC, PMMA, phenolic materials, epoxy composites, nitrile rubber, and wood after validation.
The gap-filling capability makes the product practical for rough, uneven, or imperfectly fitted parts. It also helps join dissimilar materials that experience different rates of thermal expansion. Every application should be tested using the substrates, surface treatments, bond geometry, temperature, and environmental exposure before production.
Henkel lists fixture time at approximately ten minutes on grit-blasted mild steel and aluminum with a 0.05 mm gap, and approximately twelve minutes on aluminum with a 2 mm gap. Typical cured properties include Shore D hardness of 72, tensile strength of 11.3 N/mm², elongation at break of 80%, and impact strength of 4.1 kJ/m².
Published lap-shear strength reaches approximately 25.6 N/mm² on grit-blasted mild steel and 20.4 N/mm² on etched aluminum. Typical T-peel strength is approximately 7 N/mm on grit-blasted steel. These figures are laboratory reference values rather than guaranteed specifications. Actual results depend on surface preparation, gap size, mix ratio, cure temperature, adhesive quantity, and service conditions.
Clean all bonding surfaces and remove oil, grease, dust, moisture, oxidation, and loose contamination. Place the dual cartridge upright before use, install it in the dispensing gun, remove the cap, and expel a small amount to confirm both components flow evenly. Attach the static mixer, then dispense and discard an initial bead to ensure complete mixing.
Apply the mixed adhesive to one prepared surface, assemble the parts immediately, and clamp or fixture the joint until handling strength develops. Prevent movement during curing and allow approximately 24 hours before exposing the assembly to full service loads. Larger adhesive masses can generate considerable heat, so control bead size and avoid unnecessary bulk application.
LOCTITE HY 4080 Hybrid Structural Adhesive gives industrial buyers a valuable balance of speed, strength, impact resistance, substrate versatility, and gap filling. It is a practical choice for production teams seeking a fast room-temperature structural bonder for metals, composites, plastics, and mixed-material assemblies.
