LOCTITE AA 326 Structural Adhesive combines rapid fixture development with high shear strength, helping manufacturers reduce clamping time and improve production efficiency. Henkel lists a fixture time of less than three minutes under suitable application conditions and typical lap-shear strength of approximately 15 N/mm² on prepared steel.
The high-viscosity, thixotropic formulation provides controlled dispensing and helps prevent the adhesive from running away from the bonding area. This is especially useful when applying dots or beads to vertical surfaces, curved motor housings and accurately positioned magnets. Its one-component adhesive format eliminates the need to mix two adhesive components before use.
The product is transparent yellow to light amber before curing, allowing operators to inspect the applied material during assembly. It can fill bond gaps up to approximately 0.5 mm when the recommended activator process is used, although a bond-line thickness near 0.1 mm is preferred for fast and reliable curing.
LOCTITE AA 326 Structural Adhesive is widely used for bonding ferrite magnets to plated metal surfaces in electric motors. Typical applications include elevator motors, automotive motors, appliance motors, industrial drives, loudspeaker assemblies, sensors, magnetic components and electromechanical equipment.
It can also be considered for bonding metal hardware used in jewelry and other industrial assemblies requiring rapid fixturing and strong metal-to-metal adhesion. The adhesive is especially valuable where mechanical clips, screws or complex retaining devices would increase weight, assembly time or component dimensions.
The product is primarily intended for metallic and ferrite substrates. Henkel does not normally recommend it for thermoplastics because stress cracking may occur. Compatibility testing is therefore essential when plastics, painted surfaces, unusual coatings or sensitive materials are involved.
The uncured adhesive is based on polyurethane methacrylate technology and has a typical specific gravity of approximately 1.05 at 23°C. Its Brookfield viscosity is approximately 18,000 mPa·s at 25°C, providing the high-viscosity consistency required for controlled magnet and component placement.
After curing for 24 hours at 23°C with LOCTITE SF 7649 applied to one surface, published lap-shear strength on grit-blasted steel is approximately 15.2 N/mm². Typical tensile strength of the cured material is approximately 34 N/mm², with elongation at break near 135%. The adhesive can be used at temperatures up to approximately 120°C.
These values are typical laboratory data rather than guaranteed purchasing specifications. Final performance depends on substrate preparation, surface coating, bond gap, activator coverage, ambient temperature, adhesive quantity and joint design.
Clean the bonding surfaces thoroughly and remove grease, oil, dust, oxidation and loose contamination. Apply LOCTITE SF 7649 Activator to one bonding surface and dispense the adhesive onto the other. Assemble the components within approximately 15 minutes and hold them securely until fixture strength develops.
For larger gaps approaching 0.5 mm or when faster curing is required, apply the activator to both surfaces and assemble the parts within approximately one minute. Remove uncured excess with a suitable solvent. Allow the assembly to develop full strength for approximately 24 to 72 hours before applying service loads.
LOCTITE AA 326 Structural Adhesive offers rapid fixturing, high shear strength, controlled non-running application and reliable bonding of ferrites and plated metals. It is a professional solution for electric motors, loudspeakers and magnetic assemblies requiring fast, repeatable structural bonding.
