LOCTITE 6300 Retaining Compound is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid that requires no resin-to-hardener mixing. This simplifies manual assembly and automated dispensing while reducing preparation time, proportioning errors and material waste. Its low viscosity promotes effective wetting of narrow cylindrical joints and helps distribute the adhesive around the complete circumference of the assembly.
The product fills microscopic spaces between fitted metal components, helping distribute mechanical loads more evenly across the joint. A properly designed bonded assembly can improve torque transmission, reduce fretting movement and help protect mating surfaces from corrosion and contamination.
Henkel describes LOCTITE 6300 as part of its Health and Safety anaerobic range. The formulation is also positively fluorescent under ultraviolet light, enabling production teams to verify adhesive presence and application coverage with suitable UV inspection equipment.
LOCTITE 6300 Retaining Compound is designed for bonding cylindrical fitting parts used in motors, gearboxes, pumps, machinery and industrial equipment. Typical applications include retaining gears and sprockets on gearbox shafts and securing rotors onto electric motor shafts.
Additional potential uses include bearings, bushings, sleeves, collars, pulleys and other close-fitting metallic components. The product can be considered for slip-fitted, press-fitted and shrink-fitted assemblies when its viscosity, cure characteristics and final strength meet the engineering requirements of the joint.
Performance depends on the substrate, joint clearance, surface preparation, curing temperature and assembly method. Manufacturers should qualify the adhesive with the actual metal grades, dimensions, loads and service environment before beginning repetitive production.
The uncured product is a green dimethacrylate-ester liquid with a typical specific gravity of approximately 1.1 at 25°C. Henkel publishes a Brookfield viscosity of approximately 350 mPa·s and a cone-and-plate viscosity range of approximately 200 to 550 mPa·s at 25°C. These values confirm its low-viscosity processing profile.
After curing for 72 hours at 22°C, the published compressive shear strength on steel pins and collars is at least 15 N/mm² under ISO 10123. Henkel testing also reports resistance to motor oil, unleaded petrol, brake fluid, water-glycol mixtures, ethanol, acetone and diesel exhaust fluid under specified laboratory conditions.
These figures are typical technical references rather than guaranteed purchasing specifications. Cure speed and final performance vary according to metal activity, bond gap, temperature, activator use, surface cleanliness and adhesive quantity.
Clean the internal and external bonding surfaces with a compatible LOCTITE cleaning solvent and allow them to dry. When inactive metals, low temperatures or larger clearances produce an unacceptably slow cure, apply LOCTITE SF 7471 or LOCTITE SF 7649 Activator and allow the carrier to evaporate.
For slip-fitted assemblies, apply adhesive around the leading edge of the shaft and inside the collar, then rotate the parts during assembly to improve coverage. For press fits, coat both mating surfaces thoroughly and assemble the components at a high press-on rate. For shrink fits, coat the shaft and heat the collar until sufficient installation clearance is available.
Do not disturb the components until adequate handling strength has developed. Remove uncured excess with LOCTITE SF 7063 or another suitable cleaner. High-strength cured assemblies may require localized heating to approximately 250°C before mechanical disassembly.
LOCTITE 6300 Retaining Compound combines high-strength retention, low-viscosity penetration, UV inspection and convenient one-component processing. It is a practical solution for manufacturers and maintenance teams requiring dependable bonding of gears, sprockets, rotors, shafts and other cylindrical metal components.
Store unopened containers in a dry location, ideally between 8°C and 21°C. Review the official Henkel LOCTITE 6300 Technical Data Sheet and current Safety Data Sheet before qualification or production use. Explore our industrial retaining compounds for additional cylindrical assembly solutions.
