BBX909 reacts with moisture in the air to form a flexible, resilient pressure-sensitive layer rather than a rigid solid bond. When parts are joined immediately after dispensing, the wet adhesive provides both adhesive strength and tack. After an appropriate open time, the remaining adhesive property cures while the surface retains pressure-sensitive tack, allowing the second adherend to be removed more easily. The elastic layer normally remains on the surface where the material was originally applied, helping simplify repair, replacement, and maintenance.
Official product data identifies the chemistry as acrylic-modified silicone resin. Typical properties include 94% nonvolatile content, viscosity of approximately 26 Pa·s at 23°C, and density of about 0.97 g/cm³. Tack development takes approximately seven minutes at 23°C and 50% relative humidity, although warmer and more humid conditions accelerate the process. CEMEDINE reports a 180-degree peel strength of approximately 20 N/25 mm for PET film bonded to stainless steel under its specified test conditions.
CEMEDINE BBX909 Peelable Elastic Adhesive is especially useful for materials that conventional pressure-sensitive tapes may not bond reliably. Recommended applications include attaching thin rubber sheets, silicone rubber components, polypropylene or polyethylene parts, porous materials, and films. Because the product is applied as a liquid, it can wet curved, stepped, textured, or uneven surfaces and create a larger effective contact area than a tape with a fixed backing.
The product can also be used where parts must be temporarily fixed, peeled away, replaced, or repositioned. Examples include removable covers, cushions, labels, decorative parts, protective sheets, foam components, interior panels, inspection parts, and serviceable electronic assemblies. The flexible adhesive layer helps withstand micro-vibration and heat shock while reducing the clamping force required during assembly.
Clean the target surface and remove oil, dust, moisture, release agents, and loose contamination. Apply a controlled layer to the side where the adhesive should remain after removal. For immediate bonding, assemble the parts while the material is wet. For pressure-sensitive removable bonding, allow tack to develop before joining the second surface. CEMEDINE reports reference tack-development times of about three minutes at 40°C and 65% relative humidity, seven minutes at 23°C and 50% relative humidity, and 30 minutes at 5°C and 40% relative humidity.
Film thickness, temperature, humidity, surface roughness, substrate type, and open time all influence peel strength and removability. Thin applications, higher temperature, and higher humidity generally develop tack faster. Before mass production, evaluate adhesion, residue, peel force, holding power, vibration resistance, heat exposure, and reusability on representative components.
