Polypropylene has low surface energy and is normally difficult to bond using standard industrial adhesives. SX-PPK1000 is formulated specifically to create reliable adhesion to untreated polypropylene while retaining the flexible behavior associated with CEMEDINE elastic adhesive technology. Eliminating a separate primer can shorten preparation, reduce process steps, improve production efficiency, and simplify automated dispensing. The one-part format also avoids weighing, mixing, and ratio-control errors.
Official CEMEDINE data describes the product as a pale yellow-white paste with typical viscosity of approximately 120 Pa·s at 23°C, density of about 1.23 g/cm³, and an initial surface-dry time of approximately 15 minutes. This high-viscosity consistency supports controlled beads and fillets on vertical, curved, or uneven PP components. Cure develops through atmospheric moisture, so actual curing speed depends on temperature, humidity, bead thickness, joint depth, and air access.
CEMEDINE SX-PPK1000 Polypropylene Elastic Adhesive is designed for PP-to-PP bonding and for joining polypropylene to compatible PVC, polycarbonate, ABS, PMMA, PA6, aluminum, steel, PET, PBT, PPO, PPS, PEEK, FRP, stainless steel, and other evaluated materials. Typical applications include automotive PP parts, electrical components, housing fixtures, water-related building components, covers, brackets, trim, and assemblies requiring waterproof performance.
In official testing, untreated PP-to-PP tensile-shear strength reached approximately 1.4 MPa after seven days at 23°C and 50% relative humidity. The published 180-degree peel strength for untreated PP bonded to canvas was approximately 75 N/25 mm. CEMEDINE also reports useful strength after thermal cycling and hot-humid aging, supporting applications where the joint experiences repeated temperature changes or environmental exposure.
Remove oil, grease, dust, water, release agents, and loose contamination from both bonding surfaces. Although the product is designed for primerless PP bonding, clean and consistent surfaces remain essential. Apply a controlled layer to both surfaces when required by the validated process, assemble the parts within the available open time, and maintain contact using clips, pressure, or fixtures without squeezing all adhesive from the joint.
CEMEDINE reference testing uses an open time of approximately five minutes for many material combinations and ten minutes for metal-to-PP joints. Allow the assembly to cure at room temperature with access to atmospheric moisture. Thick beads and enclosed joints require more time. Verify adhesion, peel strength, waterproofing, thermal cycling, vibration resistance, chemical exposure, and dimensional stability on representative components before mass production.
CEMEDINE does not generally recommend SX-PPK1000 for polyethylene, fluoropolymers, or polyacetal. Performance may also vary with resin grade, fillers, molding additives, metal finish, coatings, and surface contamination. Automated processes should control cartridge temperature, nozzle geometry, dispensing pressure, bead size, open time, assembly pressure, and fixture duration. Keep unused material sealed and follow the current label, technical data sheet, and safety data sheet for storage and handling requirements.
