Category:
Kafuter K-704 RTV Silicone Sealant is a white, one-component, neutral-curing silicone adhesive developed for bonding, sealing, electrical insulation, moisture protection, and vibration resistance in electronic and industrial assemblies. The viscous paste reacts with atmospheric moisture at room temperature and forms a flexible silicone-rubber elastomer after curing. Its balance of adhesion, elasticity, temperature resistance, and dielectric performance makes it suitable for electronic components, semiconductor equipment, electric heaters, instruments, motors, automotive lamps, optical devices, and general metal-to-nonmetal assembly.

Kafuter K-704 RTV Silicone Sealant Performance

K-704 cures after exposure to moisture in the surrounding air, so no separate catalyst or hardener is required. The uncured product is described as a white viscous material that can be dispensed in beads, dots, fillets, or localized filling areas. After curing, it remains flexible rather than becoming a rigid plastic, helping the joint accommodate vibration, impact, movement, and differences in thermal expansion between dissimilar materials.

Current Kafuter product information describes a normal working-temperature range of approximately -50°C to 200°C and short-term peak resistance up to about 250°C. Manufacturer technical literature also lists a surface-dry time of no more than ten minutes at 25°C under reference conditions. Actual cure speed depends on ambient humidity, temperature, bead thickness, joint depth, ventilation, and the amount of surface exposed to air.

Kafuter K-704 RTV Silicone Sealant Applications

Kafuter K-704 RTV Silicone Sealant can be used for fixing electronic components, sealing semiconductor assemblies, insulating motor parts, protecting circuit-board areas, and waterproofing electrical instruments. Typical examples include sealing the ends of electric heaters, bonding small motor magnets to metal housings, reinforcing connectors and wires, sealing automotive lamps, attaching optical components, and protecting electronic housings against moisture and vibration.

The product can bond many compatible metals and nonmetallic materials, including selected steel, aluminum, glass, ceramic, and engineering-plastic surfaces. It is useful where the assembly requires a flexible environmental seal rather than a highly rigid structural joint. Because plastics, coatings, and surface treatments vary, adhesion and compatibility should always be verified with representative production parts before volume use.

7 Benefits of Kafuter K-704 RTV Silicone Sealant

  • One-component application: Requires no measuring, mixing, or separate curing agent.
  • Neutral room-temperature cure: Supports electronic and metal-containing assemblies.
  • Flexible cured elastomer: Absorbs vibration, shock, movement, and thermal expansion.
  • Temperature resistance: Performs across demanding hot and cold service conditions.
  • Electrical insulation: Provides useful dielectric protection around compatible components.
  • Moisture sealing: Helps protect joints, housings, terminals, and instruments from humidity.
  • Multi-material adhesion: Bonds selected metal, glass, ceramic, plastic, and electronic parts.

Mechanical and Electrical Properties

Published technical data lists tensile strength of at least 1.0 MPa, elongation at break of at least 150%, shear strength of at least 0.8 MPa, and Shore A hardness from approximately 30 to 40 after curing. This combination provides a soft but durable seal that can reinforce components without creating the stress concentration associated with harder materials.

Reference electrical properties include dielectric strength of at least 15 kV/mm, dielectric constant of no more than 3.0 at 100 kHz, and volume resistivity of at least 1.0 × 1014 Ω·cm. These values support evaluated electrical insulation and anti-arcing applications, although final suitability must be confirmed under the actual voltage, spacing, temperature, humidity, and contamination conditions of the finished device.

Applying Kafuter K-704 RTV Silicone Sealant

Clean all bonding surfaces and remove oil, grease, dust, moisture, oxidation, old sealant, release agents, and loose contamination. Cut the nozzle to the required bead size, apply the material to one surface, and assemble or tool the joint before a surface skin develops. Ensure the sealant contacts both sides of the joint and avoid trapping large air pockets inside deep filling areas.

Allow the assembly to cure with access to atmospheric moisture. Kafuter guidance indicates that useful working strength can develop after approximately 24 hours at room temperature, but thick sections and enclosed joints require longer. Do not energize, heavily load, package, or expose the assembly to demanding service until sufficient cure has been verified.

Packaging, Storage, and Product Resources

K-704 is commonly supplied in white 45 g tubes and larger industrial packages, including 300 ml cartridges. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use and store it in a cool, dry location below 30°C. Published storage guidance lists approximately twelve months for the 45 g package, while shelf life for larger packaging may differ. Always confirm the current label, batch date, technical data sheet, and safety data sheet before establishing inventory limits.
