Loctite 263: Ultra-High Strength Threadlocker for Heavy-Duty Applications
1. Product Overview
Loctite 263 is an ultra-high strength, anaerobic threadlocker designed for permanent locking of threaded fasteners in heavy-duty and high-vibration environments. This industrial-grade adhesive ensures secure and reliable performance even in the most extreme conditions, making it ideal for applications where high torque, high temperature, and harsh environments are factors. Loctite 263 is particularly suited for use in automotive, industrial machinery, and equipment maintenance, providing unmatched stability and durability.
2. Key Features
Ultra-High Strength Locking
Provides exceptional holding power, ideal for securing threaded connections that require permanent fixation.
Vibration Resistance
Effectively prevents loosening due to vibration, making it suitable for high-load and high-stress applications.
High-Temperature Resistance
Maintains strong bonding performance at temperatures up to 180°C (356°F), making it suitable for high-temperature environments.
Chemical Resistance
Excellent resistance to oils, lubricants, and various chemicals, ensuring long-term durability in harsh conditions.
Permanent Locking
Designed for applications where disassembly is not required, offering long-lasting security for critical connections.

Automotive Industry
Widely used in automotive applications to secure critical components, offering durability and resistance to harsh operating conditions.
Equipment Maintenance
Suitable for maintenance tasks where high-strength locking is required, reducing the risk of fastener loosening and equipment failure.
5. How to Use
Clean the Threads: Ensure the threads are clean and free from oil, dirt, and debris for optimal adhesion.
Apply the Threadlocker: Evenly apply Loctite 263 to the threads of the fastener.
Assemble the Parts: Tighten the parts to ensure the threadlocker is evenly distributed.
Curing: Allow 24 hours for full cure at room temperature. Higher temperatures can accelerate the curing process.
LOCTITE 263 High Strength Threadlocker provides robust locking performance where medium-strength products may not offer sufficient retention. It works on active metals such as brass and copper as well as passive substrates including stainless steel, aluminum, and plated surfaces. The product can also tolerate minor contamination from cutting oils, lubricating fluids, corrosion-prevention oils, and protective fluids commonly found on as-received fasteners.
The ready-to-use liquid requires no mixing and supports manual or automated dispensing. UV fluorescence helps operators inspect application coverage during production. Once cured, the adhesive fills the microscopic spaces between engaged threads, reducing fastener movement while sealing the thread path against many industrial fluids.
This grade is especially suitable for studs installed into motor housings, nuts fitted onto studs in pump housings, gearbox fasteners, industrial machinery, fluid-processing equipment, power-generation systems, automotive components, and other assemblies requiring high-strength permanent retention. It is designed for threaded metal joints where disassembly is infrequent and where vibration resistance is a major performance requirement.
The adhesive performs best on properly engaged metal threads. It is not normally recommended for thermoplastics because stress cracking may occur, and compatibility testing is necessary before use on plastics or coated materials. It should not be selected for pure oxygen, oxygen-rich systems, chlorine, or other strong oxidizing materials.
The uncured product is a red, low-viscosity dimethacrylate ester liquid with a typical specific gravity of 1.1 and viscosity of approximately 500 mPa·s at 25°C. Henkel lists a typical fixture time of about ten minutes. After curing for 24 hours at 23°C, published performance on M10 steel nuts and bolts includes breakaway torque and prevailing torque of approximately 33 N·m.
The product provides high-temperature performance up to approximately 180°C under Henkel’s stated product guidance. Actual cure speed and final strength depend on substrate activity, thread size, clearance, temperature, surface condition, and adhesive quantity. Passive metals, large gaps, or temperatures below 5°C may slow curing, and LOCTITE SF 7649 Activator can be considered when faster fixture development is required.
For heavily contaminated fasteners, clean internal and external threads with a compatible LOCTITE cleaner and allow them to dry. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. For through-hole assemblies, apply several drops to the bolt at the nut-engagement area. For blind holes, dispense several drops into the lower third of the internal threads before installation.
Assemble the components and tighten them to the specified torque within the fixture-time window. Avoid touching the dispensing nozzle directly against metal because this can contaminate or block the tip. Allow sufficient cure time before placing the assembly under full operating load.
LOCTITE 263 High Strength Threadlocker combines high-strength retention, primerless curing, oil tolerance, broad metal compatibility, elevated-temperature performance, and reliable vibration resistance. It is an excellent commercial solution for buyers seeking permanent locking and sealing of critical threaded fasteners in motors, pumps, machinery, automotive systems, and heavy industrial equipment.
High-strength assemblies may require localized heat of approximately 250°C to 260°C for removal.
