Henkel LOCTITE 4471 Instant Adhesive for Wood Leather Rubber and Acidic Surfaces

Category: Brand:
LOCTITE 4471 Instant Adhesive is a professional one-component ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive developed for rapid assembly of wood, leather, foamed rubber, selected plastics, elastomers, metals, and acidic surfaces. Its clear, medium-viscosity liquid supports controlled dispensing while promoting uniform stress distribution and strong tensile or shear performance. Because no resin and hardener mixing is required, the adhesive helps manufacturers, repair teams, footwear producers, furniture workshops, automotive suppliers, and general industrial users reduce preparation time and simplify small-component bonding.

LOCTITE 4471 Instant Adhesive Performance

The adhesive cures when confined between close-fitting surfaces and exposed to atmospheric moisture. Under standard conditions, fixture time varies according to substrate: approximately 10 to 20 seconds on degreased steel, 2 to 10 seconds on aluminum, below five seconds on neoprene and nitrile rubber, and around 2 to 5 seconds on ABS, PVC, and polycarbonate. Full chemical and solvent resistance continues developing for at least 24 hours after assembly.

With a typical viscosity of 500 to 750 mPa·s at 25°C, LOCTITE 4471 Instant Adhesive offers more application control than very thin capillary grades while remaining fluid enough for narrow joints and accurately positioned drops. The product performs best with thin bond lines of approximately 0.05 mm. Increasing the gap can slow cure speed, so production trials should confirm the correct adhesive quantity, part fit, and fixture method.

LOCTITE 4471 Instant Adhesive Applications

LOCTITE 4471 is particularly suitable for materials that can be difficult for standard instant adhesives, including porous wood, leather, and foamed rubber. It also bonds acidic surfaces such as chromated or freshly plated parts, making it useful for specialty manufacturing and repair operations. Typical applications may include footwear components, leather goods, furniture parts, rubber seals, foam assemblies, small automotive parts, industrial equipment, trim pieces, appliance components, and mixed-material products.

Published lap-shear results after 24 hours include approximately 18 to 26 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel, 11 to 19 N/mm² on etched aluminum, and 4 to 8 N/mm² on ABS or PVC under specified laboratory conditions. Actual performance depends on substrate grade, surface treatment, bond gap, humidity, temperature, and joint design.

Key Benefits for Industrial Buyers

  • One-component formula with no measuring or mixing.
  • Medium viscosity for accurate and controlled dispensing.
  • Fast fixture performance across metals, plastics, and elastomers.
  • Strong bonding for wood, leather, and foamed rubber.
  • Suitable for acidic, chromated, and freshly plated surfaces.
  • Clear cured appearance for neat finished assemblies.
  • Good chemical and solvent resistance after full cure.

How to Apply LOCTITE 4471 Instant Adhesive

Clean both surfaces and remove grease, oil, dust, moisture, oxidation, and loose contamination. Apply a small amount to one surface, assemble the components immediately, and hold them in alignment until handling strength develops. Thin, close-fitting joints normally provide the fastest cure and best performance. Where large gaps cause slow curing, a compatible activator may improve fixture speed, although it can reduce final bond strength and should be validated before production.

Avoid excessive adhesive because a controlled bond line generally provides cleaner appearance and more efficient curing. Store unopened containers in a dry location at the recommended 2°C to 8°C range, and never return dispensed material to the original bottle.
