LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant for Reliable Metal Pipe Sealing

LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant is a one-component, high-viscosity anaerobic sealant developed for locking and sealing tapered metal pipe threads and fittings. The smooth, creamy, off-white paste fills the microscopic spaces between mating threads and cures when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air. Once cured, it helps prevent fluid or gas leakage and reduces loosening caused by shock, vibration, and normal equipment operation.

The ready-to-use formula requires no component measuring or mixing. Its thixotropic consistency supports controlled application on coarse and tapered threads without the creeping, shrinking, or system blockage associated with some conventional sealing materials. Properly tightened fittings provide an immediate seal against moderate pressure, while a minimum cure of 24 hours is recommended for maximum pressure and solvent resistance.

Key Benefits of LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant

LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant is based on methacrylate-ester technology and has a typical viscosity of approximately 540,000 mPa·s at 25°C. Its specific gravity is approximately 1.1 at 23°C. This very high viscosity allows the paste to remain on the applied threads and fill normal thread imperfections, making it particularly suitable for tapered and coarse metal connections.

The product provides high lubricity during assembly. This property helps reduce galling and thread damage when assembling stainless steel, aluminum, and other metal pipe fittings. It works on active metals such as brass and copper and can also cure on passive metals, including stainless steel and plated surfaces. The formulation tolerates minor contamination from cutting oils, lubricating oils, anti-corrosion fluids, and protective oils, although clean surfaces are still recommended for optimum performance.

LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant is classified as a low-strength sealing product, allowing many properly assembled fittings to be removed later with standard hand tools. Henkel publishes a typical breakaway torque of approximately 12 N·m on M10 black-oxide steel and brass fasteners after 24 hours at 22°C. The exact removal force varies with thread diameter, engagement length, substrate, assembly torque, and curing conditions.

Henkel lists a general operating-temperature range of approximately −55°C to 250°C. The product has also been tested for cold strength down to approximately −75°C, although Henkel does not present that lower test temperature as the standard operating limit. Actual suitability must be validated under the intended pressure, fluid, thermal cycle, and joint-loading conditions.

Applications for LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant

LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant is recommended for metal pipes and fittings used in chemical processing, petroleum refining, pulp and paper production, wastewater treatment, textile processing, utilities, power generation, marine equipment, automotive systems, industrial machinery, gas compression, gas distribution, and industrial fluid-power systems.

Typical applications include pumps, compressors, valves, manifolds, process equipment, stainless steel piping, aluminum fittings, hydraulic equipment, lubrication systems, fuel systems, natural-gas connections, and general plant-maintenance assemblies. The product is intended primarily for metal threads and is not normally recommended for thermoplastic fittings because compatibility or stress cracking may become a concern.

Depending on the market and exact package, LOCTITE 567 carries regional classifications and certifications associated with natural gas, petroleum oils, propane, butane, potable-water systems, and hydrogen-gas installations. These include UL, ULC, NSF/ANSI 61, AGA, and KIWA GASTEC QA AR 214 references. Approval scope and availability should always be confirmed for the country, pipe size, pressure, temperature, and fluid involved.

How to Apply LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant

Clean the internal and external threads with a compatible LOCTITE cleaning solvent and allow them to dry. Apply a continuous 360-degree bead around the leading male threads while leaving the first thread free. Work the paste into the thread valleys so the gaps are completely filled. Larger threads or wider voids may require additional material on both the male and female threads.

Assemble and wrench-tighten the fitting according to the equipment or fitting manufacturer’s instructions. If the metal is inactive or curing is unacceptably slow, LOCTITE SF 7471 or LOCTITE SF 7649 activator may be used after compatibility testing. Components requiring maximum pressure or chemical resistance should cure for at least 24 hours before full service.

Storage and Safety of LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant

Store unopened LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant in a dry location between approximately 8°C and 21°C. Storage below 8°C or above 28°C may affect product properties. Do not return dispensed material to the original container. The sealant is not recommended for pure oxygen, oxygen-rich systems, chlorine, or other strong oxidizing substances.

For industrial users requiring a high-temperature, oil-tolerant and easily applied metal-thread sealant, LOCTITE 567 Thread Sealant provides immediate low-pressure sealing, dependable anaerobic curing, controlled disassembly strength, and broad suitability for industrial pipe and fitting systems.
