LOCTITE EA 9483 Ultra-Clear Epoxy Adhesive for Glass, Metal, Decorative Panel and Display Bonding

Category: Brand:
LOCTITE EA 9483 Epoxy Adhesive is a two-component, ultra-clear structural bonding system developed for applications requiring optical clarity, high mechanical strength and excellent dimensional stability. Its low-viscosity consistency promotes effective surface wetting and controlled flow around closely fitted components. After the colorless resin and hardener are mixed, the product cures at room temperature to form a transparent bond line with strong resistance to impact, moisture, chemicals and common industrial solvents.

LOCTITE EA 9483 Epoxy Adhesive Benefits

LOCTITE EA 9483 Epoxy Adhesive creates an ultra-clear bond that helps preserve the appearance of transparent, translucent and decorative components. This makes it particularly useful where a dark, cloudy or highly visible adhesive line would reduce the visual quality of the completed assembly.

The two components mix at a convenient 2:1 ratio by volume or 100:46 by weight. Dual-cartridge packaging supports accurate proportioning through a static mixer, helping reduce manual measurement errors and create a consistent mixture. Its low shrinkage and dimensional stability help maintain component alignment during curing and long-term temperature changes.

The adhesive also provides impact resistance and broad chemical resistance. These characteristics support assemblies exposed to handling, vibration, humidity, cleaning agents, oils and changing environmental conditions. The maximum recommended bond gap is approximately 0.25 mm, making the product most suitable for accurately fitted components and controlled bond lines.

Applications for LOCTITE EA 9483 Epoxy Adhesive

LOCTITE EA 9483 Epoxy Adhesive is designed for transparent structural bonding, decorative assembly and clear potting applications. Typical uses include display panels, signs, exhibition components, glass assemblies, decorative inserts, lighting products, electronic enclosures and industrial components where both appearance and strength are important.

The product can bond compatible mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, anodized aluminum, soda glass, polycarbonate, ABS, nylon, wood, glass-reinforced plastic and epoxy laminates. Representative applications include bonding glass to metal, transparent panels to frames, decorative elements to housings and clear components used in commercial displays.

Every application should be validated with the actual substrate, coating, surface treatment and service environment. Some plastics may be sensitive to stress, cleaning solvents or curing exotherm, so compatibility testing is recommended before production approval.

LOCTITE EA 9483 Epoxy Adhesive Technical Properties

The mixed adhesive has a published viscosity range of approximately 3,000 to 11,000 mPa·s at 25°C. Its working life is approximately 25 to 60 minutes at 22°C when tested in a 100-gram mass. Fixture strength develops in about 3.5 hours, while complete room-temperature curing is achieved within approximately three days.

Typical cured properties include Shore D hardness of approximately 65, tensile strength of about 47 N/mm² and compressive strength near 78 N/mm². Published lap-shear strength includes approximately 23 N/mm² on grit-blasted mild steel, 21 N/mm² on anodized aluminum and 10 N/mm² on stainless steel.

The cured epoxy also provides electrical insulation, including dielectric breakdown strength of approximately 30 kV/mm and volume resistivity near 7 × 1018 Ω·cm. These characteristics support selected electrical potting and component-assembly applications.

How to Apply LOCTITE EA 9483 Epoxy Adhesive

Clean and dry all bonding surfaces and remove grease, oil, dust, oxidation and processing residue. Abrasion or another suitable surface treatment can improve structural strength and long-term durability on compatible materials.

When using a dual cartridge, confirm that both components flow evenly, attach the recommended static mixer and discard the first 3 to 5 cm of material. For manual preparation, measure the components at the specified ratio and mix thoroughly until the appearance is completely uniform.

Apply the mixed adhesive promptly to one or both surfaces, assemble the parts within the available working time and fixture them securely. Avoid mixing bulk quantities above 500 grams because the curing reaction may generate excessive heat. Do not load the assembly until adequate strength has developed.
