Henkel LOCTITE FREKOTE 44-NC Mold Release Agent for Composite Molding

Category: Brand:
LOCTITE FREKOTE 44-NC Mold Release Agent is a one-component, solvent-based, semi-permanent polymeric release coating developed for demanding composite and plastic molding processes. The clear to slightly blue liquid cures at room temperature and chemically bonds to the prepared mold surface, forming a micro-thin film. It is designed to provide repeated releases without contaminating transfer or heavy mold build-up, supporting cleaner parts and efficient production.

Semi-permanent non-transfer mold release coating for composites, epoxy, polyester, thermoplastics, adhesives, and rotational molding.

LOCTITE FREKOTE 44-NC Mold Release Agent Performance

The product forms a durable release interface rather than a thick sacrificial layer. Its polymeric film adheres to the mold and remains stable through repeated molding cycles, helping reduce frequent cleaning and reapplication. Henkel lists cured thermal stability up to 400°C, although actual performance depends on mold material, temperature, cycle time, resin chemistry, and abrasion. The recommended application-temperature range is approximately 13°C to 60°C.

Typical uncured specific gravity is 0.76 to 0.782 at 25°C. The low-viscosity liquid can be applied by wiping, brushing, or spraying, supporting both manual and automated coating processes. The finished film is matt and helps reduce cleaning before secondary bonding, painting, or finishing.

LOCTITE FREKOTE 44-NC Mold Release Agent Applications

LOCTITE FREKOTE 44-NC Mold Release Agent is suitable for releasing epoxy and polyester resins, thermoplastics, adhesives, advanced composite parts, and rotationally molded plastics. It can be used on properly prepared metal, fiberglass, epoxy, and other compatible mold surfaces. Typical applications include aerospace composites, automotive panels, marine parts, sporting goods, resin casting, and rotationally molded housings.

New fiberglass and epoxy molds should be fully cured according to the mold manufacturer’s instructions before production use. Henkel notes that newly produced or repaired molds commonly require at least two to three weeks of curing at 22°C. Fully cured unused molds may also need an appropriate Frekote mold sealer before the release agent is applied.

7 Benefits of LOCTITE FREKOTE 44-NC Mold Release Agent

  • Multiple releases: Supports repeated molding cycles after correct mold conditioning.
  • Non-contaminating transfer: Helps keep molded parts cleaner for later processing.
  • No heavy mold build-up: Reduces unnecessary release-agent accumulation.
  • High thermal stability: The cured film is rated up to 400°C.
  • Flexible application: Can be wiped, brushed, or sprayed onto prepared molds.
  • Lower maintenance: Helps reduce mold cleaning and production interruptions.
  • Broad resin compatibility: Works with composites, epoxies, polyester, thermoplastics, and adhesives.

Applying LOCTITE FREKOTE 44-NC Mold Release Agent

Clean and dry the mold thoroughly, removing old release coatings, resin residue, oil, dust, and contamination. Apply four to six thin, smooth, continuous base coats with a clean lint-free cloth, brush, or suitable spray system. Allow approximately 10 to 15 minutes between coats for solvent evaporation. When spraying, keep the nozzle about 20 to 30 cm from the surface and use dry air or an airless system.

Allow the final coat to cure for three hours at approximately 22°C. Cure may be shortened to about 15 minutes by heating the mold between 100°C and 150°C. Apply touch-up coats only where release performance declines. Closed molds must be fully ventilated and free from solvent vapor before closing.

LOCTITE FREKOTE 44-NC Mold Release Agent Storage and Resources

The product is flammable and moisture-sensitive. Use it with suitable ventilation, ignition control, personal protection, and workplace procedures. Keep the container tightly closed and store unopened material in a dry location between 8°C and 21°C, away from oxidizers and combustible materials.
