LOCTITE SI 5600 Silicone Adhesive combines fast processing with excellent adhesion and dependable hot-strength performance. Henkel specifies useful bond strength at temperatures up to 180°C, making the product suitable for assemblies exposed to repeated heating and cooling. Unlike rigid structural adhesives, the cured silicone can accommodate differences in thermal expansion between glass, coated steel, stainless steel, aluminum and compatible engineering plastics.
The two components mix at a 2:1 ratio by volume. This controlled cartridge format supports repeatable dispensing through a static mixing nozzle and reduces manual proportioning errors. The mixed paste forms a surface skin within approximately ten minutes, while published fixture times are about five to ten minutes on steel and approximately four minutes on Alclad aluminum at 25°C.
This high-temperature silicone is particularly suitable for bonding and sealing glass stovetop and cooktop assemblies. It can join glass-ceramic panels to metal frames, brackets, supports and appliance housings while maintaining flexibility during thermal cycling. Other potential applications include ovens, heating appliances, industrial equipment, metal-and-glass structures and assemblies where welding or riveting may be reduced after engineering validation.
LOCTITE SI 5600 Silicone Adhesive can also be evaluated for stainless steel, galvanized steel, enameled steel, polycarbonate, ABS, glass-filled PBT, nylon and epoxy-glass laminates. Because coatings, plastic grades and surface treatments vary, manufacturers should test the actual production materials before commercial use. Henkel notes that the adhesive system has been evaluated under UL 746C, although the completed end-product bond must still be independently qualified.
The product is a room-temperature-curing silicone with a secondary atmospheric-moisture cure that promotes full development over approximately seven days. For the black version, Component A is a black paste and Component B is a white paste, producing a black mixture after dispensing. Published component viscosities range from approximately 40,000 to 90,000 mPa·s for Part A and 30,000 to 50,000 mPa·s for Part B.
After seven days of curing at 22°C and 50% relative humidity, typical cured properties include Shore A hardness of 30 to 50, elongation at break of at least 120% and tensile strength of at least 1.0 N/mm². Typical lap-shear values include approximately 2.5 N/mm² on steel, 2.1 N/mm² on stainless steel and 2.0 N/mm² on glass with a zero-gap test configuration.
Clean all bonding surfaces thoroughly and remove grease, dust, moisture, oxidation and processing residue. Insert the dual cartridge into the recommended dispensing gun, remove the cap and dispense a short quantity to confirm that both components flow evenly. Attach the appropriate static mixing nozzle and dispense a uniform bead onto the prepared part.
Mate the components immediately after application to obtain maximum bond strength. Maintain the required bond-line thickness and fixture the assembly until sufficient handling strength develops. Process settings such as nozzle type, dispense rate, bead dimensions, open time and clamping method should be validated under actual production conditions.
