TECHNOMELT PUR CLEANER 2 is a blue hot melt cleaning agent developed for removing uncured polyurethane hot melt adhesive from industrial application equipment. Supplied in granule and cartridge formats, it is suitable for routine flushing of melting tanks, adhesive reservoirs, rollers, hoses, pumps, nozzles, and compatible dispensing systems before residual PUR adhesive chemically crosslinks. The blue appearance makes the cleaner easy to distinguish from most production adhesives during equipment flushing.
The product was previously known as Purmelt Cleaner 2. It combines effective cleaning performance with very good wetting characteristics, allowing the molten cleaner to contact internal equipment surfaces and displace uncured polyurethane hot melt residues. Regular cleaning can help reduce adhesive buildup, contamination between product changes, restricted flow, inconsistent dispensing, and avoidable equipment downtime.
TECHNOMELT PUR CLEANER 2 has a typical Brookfield viscosity of 5,500–7,500 mPa·s at 130°C. Its Ring-and-Ball softening point is approximately 68–76°C, while its density ranges from 0.94 to 0.97 g/cm³. These properties allow the cleaner to melt and flow through heated hot melt application systems while providing enough body to wet and flush internal components effectively.
Henkel recommends a processing range of approximately 100–170°C in both the melting container and at the application roller. A typical cleaning temperature is around 120°C. In normal use, the cleaner can also be processed at the same application temperature as the polyurethane hot melt adhesive previously used in the equipment, provided that temperature is compatible with the cleaning agent and the machine manufacturer’s instructions.
The cleaner’s blue color provides a clear visual indication during flushing. Operators can more easily identify when the original adhesive has been displaced and when cleaning material is moving through the equipment. This visual contrast is particularly helpful when changing between adhesive grades or preparing a PUR hot melt unit for scheduled maintenance.
TECHNOMELT PUR CLEANER 2 is intended for polyurethane hot melt equipment used in woodworking, furniture manufacturing, edge banding, profile wrapping, panel lamination, automotive interior assembly, textile lamination, appliance production, and general industrial bonding. It can be used in compatible roller coaters, melting tanks, heated hoses, pumps, application heads, and dispensing nozzles while the PUR adhesive residue remains uncured.
The product is designed for uncured polyurethane hot melts. Fully crosslinked, carbonized, or heavily charred adhesive may not be removable through normal flushing alone and may require mechanical cleaning, component replacement, or another specialized maintenance method. Cleaning should therefore be performed before extended shutdowns and before residual reactive adhesive has sufficient time to cure inside the equipment.
Before using TECHNOMELT PUR CLEANER 2, review the current safety data sheet and the cleaning instructions supplied by the equipment manufacturer. Wear suitable protective equipment because the product is processed at elevated temperatures and may cause thermal burns in its molten state.
Drain or dispense as much remaining PUR adhesive as practical. Add the required quantity of cleaner to the heated system and process it at the validated cleaning temperature. Allow the molten cleaner to move through the tank, pump, hose, roller, and nozzle assembly until the discharged material becomes uniformly blue and visible adhesive contamination is substantially reduced.
For a heavily contaminated system, more than one flushing cycle may be required. Do not mix the cleaner with production adhesive for bonding applications, and remove the cleaning material completely before loading fresh PUR hot melt. The final procedure should be validated with the actual machine, adhesive grade, temperature settings, and maintenance schedule.
Store TECHNOMELT PUR CLEANER 2 in its unopened original packaging in a cool, dry location. Henkel lists a shelf life of 24 months under recommended storage conditions, and the product is not considered frost sensitive. Keep opened packaging protected from dirt, moisture, and contamination to maintain dependable processing performance.
For manufacturers using reactive polyurethane hot melts, TECHNOMELT PUR CLEANER 2 provides convenient heated-system flushing, strong wetting performance, visible blue identification, and compatibility with a broad processing-temperature range. It is a practical maintenance solution for keeping PUR hot melt equipment cleaner and ready for reliable production.
