LOCTITE EA 3463 Epoxy Putty is a two-component, steel-filled repair stick developed for fast maintenance of worn, damaged, or leaking metal components. The resin and hardener are supplied together in a convenient kneadable format, allowing technicians to cut only the amount required for each job. After mixing, the metallic-black putty can be pressed, shaped, filled, and smoothed directly onto prepared surfaces. It cures at room temperature and develops a steel-like finish with strong compression resistance and dependable adhesion to many clean industrial substrates.
Designed for emergency repair work, LOCTITE EA 3463 Epoxy Putty helps maintenance teams reduce equipment downtime without complicated measuring or dispensing equipment. The material can cure on most damp surfaces and even under water, although bond strength may be lower when the substrate is wet. Its short working life and rapid cure make it useful for urgent repairs on pipes, tanks, castings, housings, and machinery where a conventional liquid adhesive may be difficult to control.
LOCTITE EA 3463 Epoxy Putty combines fast processing with a firm repair surface. Henkel lists a typical gel time of about three minutes, a working life of approximately four minutes at 25°C, and a cure time of around ten minutes. These characteristics allow the user to prepare, position, and shape the repair quickly before the material hardens. The putty-like consistency also helps it stay in place on vertical areas, irregular profiles, oversized holes, and localized defects.
After a full cure, the material provides a typical compressive strength of about 50 N/mm², Shore D hardness near 70, tensile strength around 18.8 N/mm², and lap-shear strength of approximately 3.8 N/mm² on grit-blasted mild steel. These values make the product suitable for non-structural metal rebuilding, surface restoration, gap filling, and sealing repairs where a hard, durable finish is required.
LOCTITE EA 3463 Epoxy Putty is recommended for stopping leaks in pipes and tanks, filling oversized bolt holes, smoothing welds, rebuilding worn metal areas, and repairing non-structural casting defects. It can also be used on equipment housings, brackets, maintenance fixtures, and other components that need localized filling or surface restoration.
The best performance is normally achieved on clean, dry, and roughened surfaces. Oil, grease, rust, paint, loose scale, and contamination should be removed before application. The product may be applied to damp surfaces when necessary, but users should expect reduced adhesion compared with a properly cleaned and dry substrate. Every critical repair should be tested under the actual pressure, load, temperature, vibration, and chemical exposure of the finished equipment.
Wear protective gloves and cut the required quantity from the stick. Remove the clear plastic wrapper from the cut section. Twist the material until the resin and hardener form a spiral pattern, then knead it for two to three minutes until the color becomes completely uniform. Apply the mixed putty firmly to the prepared area and press it into holes, cracks, gaps, or irregular surfaces.
Complete shaping within the available working time. A damp cloth or water-moistened gloved finger can be used to create a smoother finish. The recommended application temperature is approximately 15°C to 30°C, and the product should not be applied to surfaces above 66°C. Allow the repair to cure sufficiently before returning the component to service.
Store LOCTITE EA 3463 Epoxy Putty in its original package under the conditions stated on the current label and safety data sheet. Keep unused material clean and protected from heat, moisture, and contamination. Use suitable ventilation, avoid direct skin and eye contact, and never mix the product with bare hands.
For industrial users seeking a practical emergency repair material, LOCTITE EA 3463 Epoxy Putty offers portable two-part packaging, fast curing, underwater capability, and steel-filled reinforcement for pipes, tanks, castings, bolt holes, welds, and worn metal components.
