CEMEDINE 540 Nitrile Adhesive is a one-component, solvent-based rubber adhesive developed for bonding plasticized soft PVC, synthetic rubber, metal, and compatible rigid plastics. Its nitrile rubber, or NBR, chemistry provides strong resistance to oil, chemicals, heat ageing, and plasticizer migration. These characteristics make it especially useful where general-purpose rubber adhesives may soften, lose strength, or separate after contact with flexible vinyl or oily industrial environments.
The adhesive is supplied as a brown liquid and cures through evaporation of its organic solvent. A legacy CEMEDINE safety data sheet identifies the product as a nitrile-rubber adhesive containing acetone-based solvent, with a typical density of approximately 0.9 g/cm³. The flexible dried film helps the joint accommodate normal vibration, movement, and differences in flexibility between rubber, vinyl, plastic, and metal components.
CEMEDINE 540 Nitrile Adhesive offers excellent resistance to plasticizers commonly used in soft PVC products. Plasticizers can gradually migrate from flexible vinyl into an unsuitable adhesive layer, causing softening and premature bond failure. The NBR formulation helps reduce this problem, supporting more stable bonding of plasticized PVC sheets, covers, sleeves, grips, and molded flexible-vinyl components.
Its resistance to oils and selected chemicals also makes the product suitable for industrial parts that may encounter lubricants, grease, processing fluids, or oily handling conditions. CEMEDINE’s industrial catalog describes 540 as a brush-applied grade offering plasticizer and oil resistance. Historical package sizes include 180 mL, 1 kg, 3 kg, and 15 kg, although regional availability and packaging should be confirmed before ordering.
The ready-to-use, one-part format eliminates resin-to-hardener measuring and mixing. Operators can apply only the amount required, simplifying maintenance work, manual assembly, prototyping, and regular industrial production. Because it is a solvent-evaporation adhesive, correct coating thickness, open time, assembly pressure, and ventilation are essential for consistent results.
CEMEDINE 540 Nitrile Adhesive is suitable for bonding soft PVC, synthetic rubber, metal, and compatible hard plastics. Typical applications may include rubber grips, flexible vinyl products, industrial covers, sleeves, rubber-to-metal components, equipment parts, automotive accessories, motorcycle components, appliance assemblies, and general maintenance repairs. CEMEDINE 540 has also been specified in equipment instructions for securing motorcycle handlebar and heated-grip components.
Actual performance depends on the specific rubber formulation, PVC plasticizer, metal coating, plastic grade, surface contamination, bond area, temperature, and service exposure. Compatibility testing is particularly important on painted surfaces, low-surface-energy plastics, heavily plasticized vinyl, and materials that may be damaged by acetone or other organic solvents.
CEMEDINE’s current SDS and catalog download index continues to reference 540, while the current nitrile-rubber product page mainly presents grades 542 and 547F. Buyers should therefore confirm the exact current grade, packaging, technical data, and commercial availability with CEMEDINE or an authorized supplier before production approval.
Before applying CEMEDINE 540 Nitrile Adhesive, remove oil, grease, moisture, dust, rust, release agents, surface plasticizer, and loose contamination from both substrates. Confirm that the selected cleaning method does not swell, crack, discolor, or otherwise damage rubber or plastic parts.
Apply a thin, uniform coating with a suitable brush. For contact bonding, CEMEDINE’s rubber-adhesive guidance recommends coating both surfaces and allowing an open time of approximately 5 to 30 minutes until the surface reaches the correct dry-to-touch condition. Join the parts accurately and apply firm, even pressure across the complete bonding area. Follow the instructions on the supplied container because the appropriate open time varies with coating weight, temperature, ventilation, and substrate absorbency.
Avoid repositioning, bending, loading, or exposing the assembly to oil or chemicals before sufficient bond strength develops. For repeatable production, standardize surface preparation, coating thickness, open time, joining pressure, ambient temperature, ventilation, and final inspection.
CEMEDINE 540 Nitrile Adhesive contains highly flammable organic solvent. Use it only with adequate ventilation and keep it away from sparks, flames, hot surfaces, and unprotected electrical equipment. Wear suitable gloves and eye protection and review the latest SDS before use. Historical CEMEDINE safety information recommends keeping the container tightly closed and storing it away from direct sunlight at approximately 5°C to 35°C.
