LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive for Electronics Assembly

LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive is a one-component, medium-viscosity cyanoacrylate developed for rapid bonding and component tacking in electronics and general industrial assembly. The translucent adhesive cures when atmospheric moisture contacts the closely fitted bonding surfaces, eliminating the need to measure or mix separate components. It is especially suitable for securing wires to coil forms, fixing components to printed circuit boards, and creating fast bonds on compatible metals, plastics, and rubbers.

The ready-to-use formulation provides a typical fixture time of approximately 20 to 40 seconds under suitable conditions. This rapid handling strength helps manufacturers shorten assembly cycles and stabilize small components before subsequent production steps. Full chemical and solvent resistance continues to develop for at least 24 hours after bonding.

Key Benefits of LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive

LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive is based on ethyl cyanoacrylate chemistry and has a typical viscosity range of approximately 550 to 850 mPa·s at 25°C. This medium viscosity offers more application control than very thin instant adhesives while still spreading effectively across close-fitting joints. Its typical specific gravity is approximately 1.05.

When cured for two minutes at 22°C, the adhesive provides a minimum published lap-shear strength of approximately 5.4 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel. The cured material also offers useful electrical-insulation properties, including typical volume resistivity of 7.2 × 10¹⁵ Ω·cm and dielectric breakdown strength of approximately 36.6 kV/mm. These characteristics support selected electronic applications where mechanical retention and electrical insulation are both important.

Additional published properties include a glass-transition temperature of approximately 130°C, thermal conductivity of about 0.11 W/m·K, and a dielectric constant of around 3.0 at 1 kHz. These are representative laboratory values rather than guaranteed design specifications, so the complete assembly should be tested under actual voltage, temperature, humidity, vibration, and operating conditions.

Applications for LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive

LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive is particularly suitable for tacking wires to coil forms, tamper-proofing adjustable components, and mounting standoffs, edge guides, and stiffeners onto circuit boards. It can also be evaluated for small electronic parts, connectors, sensors, instrument components, rubber pieces, plastic housings, and precision metal assemblies.

For difficult-to-bond plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene, and PTFE, Henkel recommends evaluating LOCTITE SF 770 primer. Because cyanoacrylate adhesives may cause stress cracking on certain stressed plastics, particular care is required with polycarbonate, acrylic, and polysulfone. Excess adhesive can also create white blooming around the joint, so only the minimum quantity necessary should be applied.

How to Apply LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive

Before applying LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive, clean both surfaces and remove grease, oil, dust, moisture, release agents, and other contamination. Henkel recommends using a compatible cleaner such as LOCTITE SF 7070 where appropriate. Apply a small controlled quantity to one surface, assemble the parts immediately, and hold or clamp them until fixture strength develops.

When curing is too slow because of joint geometry, surface condition, or bond gap, LOCTITE SF 7452 or SF 7455 activator may be considered. Activators can accelerate fixture development but may affect ultimate bond strength, appearance, or plastic compatibility. Representative testing should therefore be completed before introducing an activator into regular production.

Storage and Safety of LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive

Store unopened LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive in a dry location between approximately 2°C and 8°C. Do not return dispensed adhesive to the original bottle because contamination may reduce storage stability. Henkel advises refrigerating unopened cyanoacrylate products but not returning opened bottles to refrigeration; opened material should be used promptly for best performance.

For electronics manufacturers requiring fast and controlled component bonding, LOCTITE 444 Instant Adhesive provides medium viscosity, rapid fixture, electrical insulation, and convenient one-part processing. It is a practical choice for wire tacking, PCB component mounting, tamper-proofing, and precision industrial assembly.
