LOCTITE AA H8600 Acrylic Adhesive is a two-component, toughened structural bonding system designed primarily for galvanized steel and light-gauge steel assemblies. Henkel lists the official product as LOCTITE AA H8600, formerly known as LOCTITE H8600. The medium-viscosity methacrylate adhesive cures rapidly after mixing at room temperature and maintains useful bond strength at elevated temperatures up to approximately 120°C.
The resin component is white, the hardener is blue, and the properly mixed adhesive forms a blue viscous liquid. Its thixotropic, non-sag consistency allows controlled application on horizontal and vertical surfaces. Because the adhesive is 100% reactive, it cures without relying on water or solvent evaporation, making it suitable for enclosed structural joints and industrial assembly processes.
LOCTITE AA H8600 Acrylic Adhesive combines high peel strength, excellent impact resistance, environmental durability, and tolerance to minor mixing-ratio variation. The system uses a 2:1 component ratio by volume or 100:50 by weight. Meter-mix equipment or a dual cartridge with a compatible static mixing nozzle is recommended to ensure accurate proportioning and a uniform mixed color.
The resin has a typical Brookfield viscosity of approximately 60,000 to 110,000 mPa·s at 25°C, while the hardener ranges from approximately 70,000 to 120,000 mPa·s. These medium-viscosity properties support controlled bead placement and help prevent excessive movement before components are assembled.
At 22°C, a 20-gram mixed mass provides an open time of approximately 25 minutes. Typical fixture time on galvanized steel is around 55 minutes at 22°C, although temperature strongly affects cure speed. Published fixture times range from approximately 250 minutes at 8°C to 30 minutes at 32°C. Parts should normally remain fixed for at least 24 hours before significant service loads are applied.
The adhesive contains approximately 0.13 mm spacer beads that help maintain a consistent bond-line thickness. This built-in control can improve assembly repeatability, reduce excessive squeeze-out, and prevent the adhesive layer from becoming too thin when light-gauge steel components are clamped together.
LOCTITE AA H8600 Acrylic Adhesive provides a published minimum lap-shear strength of approximately 12.4 N/mm² on galvanized steel after the specified curing cycle. Representative results after 72 hours at 22°C include approximately 23.1 N/mm² on steel, 23.2 N/mm² on etched aluminum, and 25.7 N/mm² on stainless steel.
Published testing also reports T-peel strength of approximately 6.2 N/mm and impact strength of about 13.1 kJ/m² on galvanized steel. These properties make the adhesive suitable for assemblies exposed to vibration, impact, peeling forces, temperature changes, humidity, and long-term mechanical stress. Henkel also reports environmental-ageing evaluations involving high humidity and salt-fog exposure.
LOCTITE AA H8600 Acrylic Adhesive is intended for structural galvanized-steel bonding in light-gauge construction and industrial manufacturing. Typical applications include steel wall systems, flooring assemblies, headers, studs, hold-down components, trusses, metal frames, structural panels, brackets, and other assemblies requiring durable steel-to-steel bonding.
The product can help reduce dependence on welding, riveting, screws, and other concentrated mechanical fasteners in suitably engineered joints. Adhesive bonding distributes stress across a larger surface area and can support cleaner exterior surfaces. However, every structural design should be validated using the actual steel coating, joint geometry, loading conditions, environmental exposure, and production process.
Before applying LOCTITE AA H8600 Acrylic Adhesive, remove excessive white oxidation, grease, oil, dust, moisture, and loose contamination from galvanized-steel surfaces. Extensive preparation is not normally required, and good bonds can often be achieved after a suitable solvent wipe. Both components must be thoroughly mixed until the adhesive reaches a uniform color.
Apply enough adhesive to completely fill the joint, assemble the surfaces within the available open time, and secure the components against movement. When hand mixing, prepare less than 100 grams at one time to reduce excessive exothermic heat buildup. Remove uncured excess from equipment and surrounding surfaces before it hardens.
Store unopened LOCTITE AA H8600 Acrylic Adhesive in a dry location between 2°C and 8°C. The product is classified as flammable and should be kept away from oxidizing agents, combustible materials, heat, sparks, and ignition sources. Operators should review the current SDS for both components and use appropriate ventilation, gloves, eye protection, and workplace controls.
