LOCTITE 430 Instant Adhesive is particularly suited to metal substrates and also bonds engineering plastics and elastomers. The ready-to-use liquid reduces preparation time and eliminates ratio errors associated with two-component systems. Its transparent, colorless appearance supports clean-looking assemblies. The rapid fixture time can shorten clamping periods.
Henkel lists a typical fixture time of approximately 30 seconds, although actual performance depends on the substrate, humidity, temperature, bond gap, and surface condition. Representative fixture times range from 20 to 40 seconds on degreased steel, below 10 seconds on neoprene and nitrile rubber, and 10 to 30 seconds on ABS under stated conditions.
This general-purpose instant adhesive is suitable for bonding metal parts, brackets, housings, rubber seals, molded plastic components, electronic parts, and precision mechanical components. It is especially effective when the parts fit closely and require fast handling strength. Typical sectors include electronics, automotive components, industrial equipment, appliances, and general repair.
The adhesive can bond steel, aluminum, ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic materials, neoprene, and nitrile rubber after suitable surface preparation. Low-surface-energy plastics such as polyethylene or polypropylene may require LOCTITE SF 770 Primer. Because plastics, coatings, additives, and molded stresses vary, users should test the assembly before production.
The uncured product has a typical specific gravity of 1.1 at 25°C. Published viscosity is approximately 60 to 90 mPa·s by cone-and-plate testing or 70 to 110 mPa·s by Brookfield testing. The low viscosity supports precise dispensing and surface wetting.
After curing for 24 hours at 22°C, typical lap-shear strength is 20 to 30 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel and 15 to 22 N/mm² on grit-blasted aluminum. Published values also show useful strength on ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic, neoprene, and nitrile substrates. The cured adhesive offers electrical insulation, including dielectric breakdown strength of approximately 25 kV/mm under the stated test method. These values are typical data rather than guaranteed specifications.
Clean both bonding surfaces and remove grease, oil, dust, moisture, oxidation, and mold-release residue. Apply a small quantity to one surface, assemble the parts immediately, and hold or clamp them until fixture strength develops. The product performs best in thin bond gaps of approximately 0.05 mm. Excess adhesive can slow curing, increase blooming, and create an untidy bond area.
When curing is too slow because of a larger gap or inactive surface, LOCTITE SF 7452 or SF 7455 Activator may be evaluated. Activators can reduce final bond strength, so testing is recommended. Accurate positioning is important because the short fixture time provides limited opportunity for adjustment.
LOCTITE 430 Instant Adhesive combines fast curing, low-viscosity flow, strong metal bonding, broad material compatibility, and convenient one-part processing. It is a practical choice for manufacturers, maintenance professionals, and distributors seeking a reliable instant adhesive for close-fitting industrial components.
