LOCTITE 225 Medium Strength Threadlocker offers a practical balance between secure retention and serviceability. It remains more maintenance-friendly than permanent high-strength threadlockers, making it useful for equipment that must stay reliable during operation but may still require scheduled inspection, component replacement, or adjustment.
The ready-to-use formula requires no mixing, measuring, or heating. It cures when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air, filling microscopic clearances throughout the engaged thread area. Once cured, the adhesive helps distribute loads across the threads, limits fastener movement, and seals the thread path against leakage. Positive fluorescence under ultraviolet light can support application inspection during controlled production.
Typical applications include threaded fasteners used in pumps, motors, gearboxes, industrial machinery, process equipment, maintenance systems, and general metal assembly. It can be applied to through-hole bolts, blind-hole fasteners, studs, and selected threaded fittings where medium-strength retention and later disassembly are required.
The product is designed for metal assemblies and should be evaluated carefully before use on plastics, especially stress-sensitive thermoplastics. Cure speed varies according to metal type, thread size, gap, temperature, and surface condition. Brass and active metals generally cure faster, while stainless steel, plated surfaces, or larger gaps may require more time. LOCTITE SF 7471 or LOCTITE SF 7649 Activator may be used when faster cure is necessary.
The uncured material is a brown dimethacrylate ester liquid with a typical specific gravity of 1.08 at 25°C. Henkel lists Brookfield viscosity ranges of 5,900 to 10,300 mPa·s at higher spindle speed and 17,500 to 52,500 mPa·s at lower spindle speed, confirming its medium-viscosity, shear-thinning behavior. The official product page lists a typical fixture time of approximately 50 minutes.
After curing for 24 hours at 22°C, published performance on M10 black-oxide bolts and steel nuts includes breakaway torque from 2.5 to 12 N·m and prevailing torque from 0.5 to 5 N·m. The cured material also demonstrates resistance to motor oil, water-glycol mixtures, gasoline, brake fluid, ethanol, and acetone under Henkel laboratory testing. These figures are typical values and should be confirmed under actual production conditions.
Clean internal and external threads with a compatible LOCTITE cleaning solvent and allow them to dry. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. For through-hole assemblies, apply several drops to the bolt where the nut will engage. For blind holes, place several drops into the internal threads near the bottom of the hole.
For sealing applications, apply a continuous 360-degree bead to the leading male threads while leaving the first thread free. Work the adhesive into the thread profile, assemble the parts, and tighten them according to the equipment manufacturer’s requirements. Avoid touching the dispensing tip directly against metal, as this may contaminate or clog the nozzle.
LOCTITE 225 Medium Strength Threadlocker combines dependable vibration resistance, leak prevention, one-part processing, controlled viscosity, and removable medium-strength performance. It is a professional choice for buyers who need secure metal fasteners without making future maintenance unnecessarily difficult.
