LOCTITE EA 9492 Epoxy Adhesive is designed for applications requiring structural strength and dependable performance at temperatures up to approximately 180°C. Its lower-viscosity consistency helps the mixed material flow around components, fill irregular spaces and cover larger bonding areas. This makes it especially suitable for encapsulating boxes, electronic devices, industrial parts and assemblies where complete adhesive coverage is important.
The two components use a convenient 2:1 resin-to-hardener mixing ratio by volume, equivalent to 100:50 by weight. Dual-cartridge packaging supports controlled proportioning through a static mixing nozzle, reducing manual measurement errors and helping production teams achieve a uniform mixture. The white final appearance also suits applications where a light-colored bond line or encapsulated surface is preferred.
This high-temperature epoxy can be used for structural bonding, equipment repair, electrical encapsulation and component potting. Typical applications include electronic boxes, sensors, industrial controls, electrical assemblies, transformers, metal housings, appliance components, filters, machinery parts and devices exposed to thermal cycling.
LOCTITE EA 9492 Epoxy Adhesive bonds many compatible materials, including grit-blasted mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, polycarbonate, ABS, PVC, glass-fiber-reinforced plastic and epoxy laminates. Adhesion varies by substrate, surface treatment and joint design, so manufacturers should test the actual materials and production conditions before commercial use.
The mixed adhesive has a typical pot life of approximately 15 minutes at 22°C when tested in a 100-gram mass. Fixture time is approximately 75 minutes, while complete room-temperature curing develops within about three days. Elevated temperatures may be used to accelerate curing after the heating process has been validated for the components and assembly.
Published cured properties include Shore D hardness of approximately 80, tensile strength of about 31 N/mm² and compressive strength near 80 N/mm². Typical lap-shear strength after seven days at 22°C is approximately 20 N/mm² on grit-blasted mild steel, 14 N/mm² on abraded aluminum and 12 N/mm² on stainless steel.
The cured epoxy also provides a dielectric breakdown strength of approximately 17.5 kV/mm and thermal conductivity near 0.3 W/m·K. These electrical characteristics, combined with low outgassing and thermal-shock resistance, support potting and encapsulation applications involving electrical and electronic components.
Clean and dry every bonding surface and remove grease, oil, dust, oxidation and processing residue. Abrasion or another suitable surface treatment can improve structural bond strength and long-term durability. When using a dual cartridge, dispense through the recommended static mixer and discard the first 3 to 5 cm of material to confirm balanced flow.
For manual preparation, measure the resin and hardener at the specified ratio and mix thoroughly until the color is completely uniform. Continue mixing briefly after uniformity is achieved. Apply the adhesive promptly because higher temperatures and larger mixed quantities shorten the available working time.
Coat one surface, or both surfaces when maximum coverage is required, then assemble the components immediately. Hold the parts securely during curing and avoid service loading until adequate strength has developed. Do not mix or cure bulk quantities above 0.5 kg because the exothermic reaction may generate excessive heat.
LOCTITE EA 9492 Epoxy Adhesive combines high-temperature resistance, low outgassing, chemical resistance, electrical insulation and dependable multi-material bonding. It is a professional choice for manufacturers requiring a flowable two-part epoxy for structural assembly, equipment repair, electronic potting and component encapsulation.
