LOCTITE 4061 Medical Device Instant Adhesive provides rapid fixture development on many materials commonly used in medical and industrial assembly. Representative fixture times include approximately 2 to 10 seconds on aluminum, ABS and rigid PVC, less than five seconds on neoprene and nitrile rubber, and approximately 10 to 20 seconds on degreased steel.
The ready-to-use formula requires no resin-to-hardener measurement, helping manufacturers reduce preparation time, mixing errors and process variation. Its published viscosity of approximately 10 to 30 mPa·s supports precise dispensing into tight gaps, small connectors and compact molded components.
The cured adhesive is transparent, making it suitable for visible assemblies where a dark bond line would be undesirable. It also provides electrical insulation, with published dielectric breakdown strength of approximately 25 kV/mm and volume resistivity of approximately 1 × 1016 Ω·cm.
LOCTITE 4061 Medical Device Instant Adhesive is intended for disposable medical devices and precision assemblies containing compatible plastics, rubbers and metals. Typical applications may include tubing connectors, diagnostic components, filters, valves, plastic housings, rubber seals, molded parts and small metal fittings.
Published substrate data include steel, aluminum, zinc-dichromate metal, ABS, rigid PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic material, neoprene and nitrile rubber. Difficult low-surface-energy plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene and PTFE may be bonded after treatment with LOCTITE SF 7701 Primer.
Testing according to Henkel’s ISO 10993-based protocols assists manufacturers during adhesive selection, but it does not replace validation of the completed medical device. The finished assembly, intended contact classification, manufacturing process and sterilization method must be independently evaluated. The product is intended for disposable devices rather than implants or invasive prostheses.
The uncured adhesive is a transparent, colorless-to-slightly-yellow ethyl cyanoacrylate liquid with a typical specific gravity of approximately 1.05 at 25°C. It performs best in thin bond gaps near 0.05 mm, while the current Henkel product page lists gap filling up to approximately 0.15 mm.
After 24 hours at 22°C, published lap-shear strength ranges include approximately 18 to 26 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel, 11 to 19 N/mm² on etched aluminum, 4 to 6 N/mm² on ABS or rigid PVC and 3.5 to 4.5 N/mm² on polycarbonate.
Henkel reports that LOCTITE 4061 retains bond strength following one steam-autoclave cycle. Similar products also show good retention after ethylene-oxide and gamma-radiation sterilization. Manufacturers should test completed parts after the selected sterilization process, especially when repeated cycles are expected.
Clean and degrease all bonding surfaces using a compatible cleaner such as LOCTITE SF 7070, then allow them to dry. Apply a small quantity of adhesive to one component and assemble the parts immediately. Accurate positioning is essential because the extremely short fixture time provides limited adjustment.
Hold or clamp the assembly until handling strength develops. When difficult plastics are involved, apply LOCTITE SF 7701 Primer and allow it to dry before adhesive application. If large gaps or low humidity cause slow curing, LOCTITE SF 713 Activator may be evaluated. Activators can reduce final strength, so production testing is necessary.
Avoid excessive adhesive because thick deposits can slow curing and produce white blooming around the joint. Full chemical and solvent resistance continues developing for at least 24 hours. Store unopened containers in a dry refrigerated location between 2°C and 8°C.
LOCTITE 4061 Medical Device Instant Adhesive combines ultra-low viscosity, rapid fixture development, transparent appearance, electrical insulation and ISO 10993-based testing. It is a professional solution for fast bonding of plastics, elastomers and metals in disposable medical devices and compact precision assemblies.
