LOCTITE SI 5031 combines rapid light curing with secondary moisture curing to provide a practical solution for complex assemblies. Exposed material can become dry to the touch within seconds under sufficient light energy, allowing manufacturers to reduce handling time and move assemblies through the next production stage quickly. Henkel reports a typical tack-free time of approximately 20 seconds at 70 mW/cm² measured at 365 nm. Moisture curing then supports areas beneath components, around edges, and inside geometries that remain partially shaded.
The uncured silicone has a typical viscosity of approximately 5,800 mPa·s at 25°C and a specific gravity of about 1.01. This balanced flow behavior supports accurate dispensing while allowing the material to level across the target area. Although functional strength develops almost immediately after suitable light exposure, complete performance properties continue developing for approximately 72 hours under ambient conditions.
LOCTITE SI 5031 Dual Cure Silicone Potting Compound is designed for localized potting, protective coating, cavity filling, and environmental sealing. Typical uses include electronic control modules, sensors, connectors, lighting assemblies, circuit-board areas, automotive electronics, industrial controls, military equipment, and other components requiring a flexible protective barrier.
The material can be applied around delicate components where a rigid encapsulant could create unwanted stress during vibration or thermal movement. Its positive fluorescence under UV light also supports visual inspection of coverage during quality-control processes. Manufacturers should verify compatibility with the actual plastics, metals, coatings, circuit materials, and component finishes used in production.
Bonding and coating surfaces should be clean and free from grease, oil, moisture, dust, flux residue, and other contamination. Because the material is light sensitive, exposure to daylight, UV light, and strong artificial lighting should be minimized during storage and handling. Henkel recommends black feedlines for dispensing equipment.
Apply the required volume and expose the material to suitable UV or visible light. The technical data sheet recommends an initial minimum irradiance of 30 mW/cm² for approximately 20 seconds, although deeper sections may require increased exposure. Assemble mating parts within a few minutes because secondary moisture curing begins as soon as the product contacts the atmosphere. Excess uncured material may be removed using a compatible non-polar solvent.
Review the official Henkel LOCTITE SI 5031 product page and the official LOCTITE SI 5031 technical data sheet for current technical values, regional packaging, processing recommendations, and safety information. Store unopened containers in a dry location, ideally between 8°C and 21°C. Do not return dispensed or potentially contaminated material to the original container.
