The tape has a nominal total thickness of 0.066 mm, including a 0.036 mm flat copper foil backing. Silver-coated glass beads embedded in the acrylic adhesive create an electrical path between the copper backing and the application surface. Under specified test conditions, the maximum electrical resistance is 0.005 ohm per square inch, while average shielding effectiveness is approximately 66 dB across 300 kHz to 2.5 GHz.
This construction supports dependable electrical continuity while maintaining the conformability needed for equipment housings, seams, cables, panels, and component surfaces. The pressure-sensitive adhesive provides immediate contact after application and offers minimum adhesion to steel of 2.7 N/cm. The copper backing also provides a minimum breaking strength of 39 N/cm, helping the tape withstand normal handling, installation, and die-cut converting processes.
Typical applications include EMI and RFI shielding in electronic equipment, grounding of components, static charge draining, cable wrapping, seaming shielded rooms, and creating surface contact on materials that are difficult to solder directly. The tape is also solderable, allowing technicians to integrate it into prototypes, design verification, troubleshooting, repair, and custom shielding solutions.
Manufacturers can convert the removable-liner construction into precise shapes for circuit boards, enclosure seams, displays, sensors, communication equipment, control systems, test instruments, and automotive electronics. Actual shielding performance depends on contact pressure, surface smoothness, overlap design, foil continuity, grounding method, signal frequency, and the complete equipment configuration. Representative testing should therefore be completed before production approval.
Clean the target surface and remove oil, dust, oxidation, moisture, and release agents before applying the tape. Position the material carefully, then use firm, even pressure to maximize adhesive contact and electrical continuity. Avoid wrinkles, trapped air, loose edges, and insufficient overlap. For die-cut parts, protect the liner and adhesive from contamination during converting and installation.
