3M GT6012 Acrylic Foam Tape provides strong initial adhesion, enabling many bonded parts to move directly to the next assembly stage without temporary fixtures. As the bond develops, the tape delivers high final adhesion and peel strength. The flexible foam core follows shrinkage and elongation of plastic components caused by temperature changes, helping preserve bond-line appearance under normal stress loads.
The tape also offers resistance to weather, common automotive solvents, and demanding temperature conditions. Its pressure-sensitive design eliminates mixing, curing ovens, and liquid adhesive cleanup. A red 3M-branded polyethylene liner supports easy identification and removal, while selected converting formats may use a siliconized paper liner. The product is suitable for both manual application and automated attachment processes.
This tape is designed primarily for exterior automotive trim attachment. Typical applications include body-side moldings, claddings, pillars, rocker panels, sill plates, spoilers, sensor brackets, emblems, inserts, and wheel-arch extensions. Its 1.2 mm thickness helps accommodate small surface irregularities while maintaining a controlled and professional-looking bond line.

Ensure every bonding surface is clean, dry, and free from oil, silicone, dust, release agents, wax, and other contamination. Apply the tape accurately to the trim component without stretching it. Use firm and uniform pressure with a roller, press, or suitable application tool to maximize contact and wet-out across the full bonding area.
Remove the liner without touching the exposed adhesive, position the component carefully, and press it firmly onto the vehicle surface. Application trials should determine the correct pressure, temperature, primer requirement, part fit, and dwell time. Low-surface-energy plastics or rubber blends may require an approved adhesion promoter, such as 3M Adhesion Promoter 4298UV, after compatibility testing.
