DEVCON 14167-NC structural adhesive is a fast-curing, two-part methacrylate adhesive engineered for structural bonding in electronic and industrial assembly. It combines high strength, excellent toughness and broad material compatibility, making it a practical choice for joining metals, engineered thermoplastics and fiber-reinforced composites.
The adhesive is mixed at a 10:1 ratio by volume and provides approximately three to five minutes of working time. On polycarbonate, it can develop initial handling strength in about eight minutes under specified test conditions, helping manufacturers shorten fixture times and move assembled parts through production more efficiently.
A major advantage of DEVCON 14167-NC structural adhesive is its combination of fast room-temperature curing and dependable structural performance. The two-part system eliminates the need for a separate heat-curing process, making it suitable for production lines where speed and process simplicity are important.
The cured adhesive delivers high toughness, strong impact resistance and excellent fatigue endurance. These characteristics help bonded joints withstand vibration, repeated mechanical loading and occasional impact without becoming excessively brittle. ITW also describes the product as halogen-free, with strong adaptability across an extensive range of substrates.
Its high-viscosity consistency supports controlled bead placement and helps prevent unwanted flow after dispensing. The official technical data indicates a gap-filling capability of up to 6.4 mm, allowing the adhesive to accommodate components with moderate dimensional variation or uneven bonding surfaces.
DEVCON 14167-NC structural adhesive is recommended for bonding aluminum, magnesium, stainless steel and cold-rolled steel. It can also bond common engineering plastics such as ABS, polycarbonate, PVC and acrylic, as well as fiber-reinforced composites based on vinyl ester, polyester and epoxy resins.
The adhesive is self-priming on many metals and can often be used with little surface preparation. This can reduce the number of separate cleaning, priming and processing steps required during assembly.
For reliable results, bonding surfaces should still be clean, sound and degreased. Although primer may not be necessary for many applications, ITW recommends removing metal oxides and testing the selected substrates under the expected service conditions before commercial use.
Typical applications include electronic housings, metal frames, plastic enclosures, composite panels, brackets, portable devices and assemblies made from dissimilar materials. Adhesive bonding can distribute stress across the complete joint area while eliminating visible screws, rivets or weld marks.
To apply DEVCON 14167-NC structural adhesive, load the dual cartridge into a compatible 10:1 dispensing gun and install the appropriate static mixing nozzle. Dispense a small amount until both components flow evenly and the mixed adhesive appears consistent.
Apply the adhesive directly to one prepared surface and join the parts within the available working time. Maintain firm contact and hold the assembly in position until sufficient handling strength has developed.
The material can be applied using manual or pneumatic dispensing equipment at temperatures between approximately 1°C and 35°C. Uncured residue may be removed with alcohol, while fully cured adhesive generally requires mechanical removal.
Production trials should confirm working time, dispensing consistency, fixture time, bond-line thickness and final strength using the actual substrates and assembly conditions.
DEVCON 14167-NC structural adhesive has a listed operating-temperature range of approximately −40°C to 121°C. It also offers excellent resistance to hydrocarbons, salt solutions and acids or bases within a moderate pH range, although it may be affected by polar solvents and strong acids or alkalis.
Official test data reports typical lap-shear strength values of approximately 10.3 MPa on polycarbonate and 17.1 MPa on aluminum 6061 at 23°C. These figures are typical laboratory results and should not replace testing under the customer’s actual joint design and service environment.
