LOCTITE 222 Threadlocker gives manufacturers, repair technicians, and maintenance teams reliable fastening security without creating a permanent joint. Its low-strength performance is ideal for adjustment screws, countersunk screws, set screws, access covers, control components, and other parts that may require later calibration, servicing, or replacement.
The one-component liquid requires no mixing and cures anaerobically after it is confined between close-fitting metal threads and air is excluded. This simple curing mechanism supports clean assembly and reduces the need for lock washers, split washers, or other mechanical locking devices in many applications. The thixotropic consistency also helps control migration after dispensing.
Common uses include small fasteners in pumps, gearboxes, presses, electric motors, instrumentation, HVAC equipment, powertrain components, production machinery, and general maintenance assemblies. It is useful where vibration could gradually loosen an untreated screw but where technicians still need to remove the fastener during scheduled service.
The product can be applied to active and passive metal surfaces. Henkel also recommends it for low-strength metals where a stronger threadlocker could damage the fastener during disassembly. Actual curing speed and final locking strength depend on metal activity, temperature, fastener diameter, thread engagement, surface cleanliness, adhesive quantity, and the presence of oil or contamination.
For best results, clean the internal and external threads with a suitable LOCTITE cleaning solvent and allow them to dry. Shake the bottle before use. For through-hole assemblies, apply several drops to the bolt in the nut-engagement area. For blind holes, place the adhesive into the internal threads near the bottom so it spreads upward during assembly.
Assemble and tighten the fastener according to the equipment manufacturer’s requirements. When working with inactive metals or when faster curing is needed, LOCTITE SF 7471 or LOCTITE SF 7649 Activator may be applied to the threads and allowed to dry before dispensing the threadlocker. Avoid touching the dispensing tip directly against metal surfaces because this may contribute to nozzle blockage.
