After 24 hours at 22°C, published lap-shear strength ranges include approximately 18 to 26 N/mm² on grit-blasted steel, 11 to 19 N/mm² on etched aluminum, 4 to 6 N/mm² on ABS or rigid PVC and 3.5 to 4.5 N/mm² on polycarbonate.

Henkel reports that LOCTITE 4061 retains bond strength following one steam-autoclave cycle. Similar products also show good retention after ethylene-oxide and gamma-radiation sterilization. Manufacturers should test completed parts after the selected sterilization process, especially when repeated cycles are expected.

How to Apply LOCTITE 4061 Medical Device Instant Adhesive

Clean and degrease all bonding surfaces using a compatible cleaner such as LOCTITE SF 7070, then allow them to dry. Apply a small quantity of adhesive to one component and assemble the parts immediately. Accurate positioning is essential because the extremely short fixture time provides limited adjustment.

Hold or clamp the assembly until handling strength develops. When difficult plastics are involved, apply LOCTITE SF 7701 Primer and allow it to dry before adhesive application. If large gaps or low humidity cause slow curing, LOCTITE SF 713 Activator may be evaluated. Activators can reduce final strength, so production testing is necessary.

Avoid excessive adhesive because thick deposits can slow curing and produce white blooming around the joint. Full chemical and solvent resistance continues developing for at least 24 hours. Store unopened containers in a dry refrigerated location between 2°C and 8°C.
