LOCTITE 425 Plastic Fastener Threadlocker is a dark-blue, one-component cyanoacrylate adhesive developed for locking small metal and plastic threaded fasteners. Unlike conventional anaerobic threadlockers intended mainly for metal-to-metal assemblies, this specialized moisture-curing formula is designed for applications involving plastic screws, plated fasteners, adjustment components, and other close-fitting parts. Its low-strength performance helps secure the assembly against accidental movement while supporting applications that do not require a permanently locked high-strength joint.
The ready-to-use liquid requires no mixing and can be applied before or after fastener assembly. LOCTITE 425 Plastic Fastener Threadlocker cures rapidly on plated metal and compatible plastic fasteners, reaching fixture strength in less than two minutes under suitable conditions and developing full strength within approximately 24 hours. These characteristics support efficient assembly, inspection, maintenance, and tamper-evident marking processes.
LOCTITE 425 Plastic Fastener Threadlocker combines fast curing with low viscosity and controlled locking strength. Henkel specifies a typical Brookfield viscosity of approximately 40 to 80 mPa·s at 25°C and a specific gravity of about 1.1. The thin liquid spreads easily around small fasteners and performs best in close-fitting bond gaps of approximately 0.05 mm.
Its cyanoacrylate chemistry cures when atmospheric moisture initiates polymerization between the closely fitted surfaces. This mechanism makes the product suitable for small threaded parts where a traditional anaerobic system may not be appropriate. The official operating-temperature range is approximately -54°C to 85°C, covering many electronic, electrical, instrument, appliance, and light industrial applications.
The cured material also provides useful electrical insulation. Published values include volume and surface resistivity above 1 × 10¹⁵ and dielectric breakdown strength of approximately 19.7 kV/mm under the referenced test methods. These values are typical laboratory results rather than guaranteed design specifications, so the completed assembly should be validated under actual voltage, temperature, humidity, and service conditions.
LOCTITE 425 Plastic Fastener Threadlocker is designed for securing small metal and plastic screws, nuts, adjustment fasteners, and similar components. Henkel specifically recommends it for tamper-proofing screw heads and potentiometers. Other potential uses include electronic controls, switches, sensors, terminal assemblies, instrument panels, appliance components, plastic housings, and light-duty fasteners where a visible dark-blue locking material is beneficial.
Because plastics vary considerably in composition, additives, molded-in stress, and surface treatment, compatibility testing is essential. Cyanoacrylate adhesives may cause stress cracking, whitening, or surface damage on certain sensitive plastics. The product should therefore be tested on the actual material and assembled component before production approval.
Before application, make sure the fastener surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, mold-release agents, and loose contamination. Apply a small controlled amount before assembly, or dispense the product onto the joint after assembly when capillary access is available. Avoid excessive application because surplus adhesive can spread beyond the intended area and may create cosmetic residue.
Join or position the components immediately and keep them stable until fixture strength develops. Where faster fixturing is required, Henkel identifies LOCTITE SF 7113 as a compatible cyanoacrylate activator. Activator use should be validated because it may influence cure speed, appearance, and final performance. Uncured excess may be removed with suitable LOCTITE cleaning solvents, nitromethane, or acetone after confirming substrate compatibility.
Store unopened LOCTITE 425 Plastic Fastener Threadlocker in a dry location at the recommended temperature of 2°C to 8°C. Do not return dispensed adhesive to the original container because contamination can affect storage stability and performance. The product should not be used in pure oxygen, oxygen-rich systems, chlorine, or other strong oxidizing environments.
For manufacturers requiring fast, low-strength locking of small plastic or plated-metal fasteners, LOCTITE 425 Plastic Fastener Threadlocker offers simple one-part processing, rapid fixture, visible application, and reliable performance in precision industrial assemblies.
