LOCTITE 4014 Medical Grade Instant Adhesive provides very fast fixture development on many substrates. Henkel lists typical fixture times ranging from five to ten seconds on ABS, five to eight seconds on stainless steel bonded to polycarbonate, and twenty to twenty-five seconds on polycarbonate-to-polycarbonate assemblies. The one-part formulation eliminates weighing and mixing.
The transparent, colorless-to-slightly-yellow appearance creates an unobtrusive bond line for medical tubing, connectors, housings, and diagnostic parts. Its very low viscosity of approximately 1 to 5 mPa·s makes the product especially suitable for accurately fitted parts and thin joints. For best performance, Henkel recommends a thin bond gap near 0.05 mm, while the listed maximum gap-fill capability is approximately 0.15 mm.
This medical-grade instant adhesive is designed for assembling disposable medical devices and can also be used for precision industrial bonding. Typical applications include plastic tubing connections, catheters, valves, filters, diagnostic cartridges, transparent housings, connectors, small metal components, and molded plastic parts.
LOCTITE 4014 has been tested to Henkel protocols based on ISO 10993 biocompatibility standards to assist product selection for medical-device applications. This testing does not replace validation of the finished device. Manufacturers should evaluate the complete assembly, sterilization method, service environment, extractables, production process, and applicable regulatory requirements before commercial use.
The uncured adhesive has a typical specific gravity of 1.1 at 25°C. After curing for twenty-four hours at 22°C, representative properties include Shore hardness of approximately 65, tensile strength near 28 N/mm², and elongation of about 2%. Published lap-shear values exceed 7.5 N/mm² on PVC-to-PVC and polycarbonate-to-polycarbonate joints under specified laboratory conditions.
The adhesive develops full chemical and solvent resistance after continued curing, normally requiring at least twenty-four hours. Henkel also reports useful humidity resistance and bond-strength retention after selected sterilization methods, including ethylene oxide, gamma radiation, and one steam-autoclave cycle. Finished medical devices must still be tested using the manufacturer’s intended sterilization process.
Clean bonding surfaces thoroughly and remove oil, grease, dust, moisture, release agents, and processing contamination. Apply a small quantity to one surface, assemble the components immediately, and hold or clamp them until fixture strength develops. Accurate positioning is important because the rapid cure leaves limited adjustment time.
For difficult low-surface-energy plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, and PTFE, apply LOCTITE SF 7701 Primer and allow it to dry before adhesive dispensing. When cure speed is too slow, LOCTITE SF 713 Activator may be evaluated, although activators can reduce final bond strength. Avoid excessive adhesive because it may increase blooming and produce an untidy appearance.
