LOCTITE 2700 Threadlocker provides permanent retention for threaded assemblies that are not intended for routine disassembly. It is particularly suitable for pumps, gearboxes, presses, motors and other industrial equipment where an unexpected loose fastener could affect safety, alignment or operating reliability.
The product works on active metals and less-active substrates, including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass and plated fasteners. Henkel specifically recommends it for zinc-flake-coated surfaces, where the formulation provides strong curing performance without requiring a different threadlocking grade.
Its one-component format requires no resin-to-hardener mixing, helping reduce preparation time and application errors. The low viscosity promotes complete thread wetting, while positive fluorescence under ultraviolet light allows production teams to confirm adhesive presence with suitable inspection equipment.
LOCTITE 2700 Threadlocker is designed for locking and sealing bolts, nuts and studs in industrial manufacturing, electrical machinery, mechanical equipment and maintenance operations. Typical applications include gearbox housing bolts, pump fasteners, press assemblies, motor mounting bolts, structural studs and machinery exposed to continuous vibration.
The product is recommended for metal threads up to approximately M20. It fills microscopic spaces between male and female threads, forming a continuous polymer layer that helps distribute load, prevent relative movement and reduce the entry of moisture or corrosive contaminants.
Because the cured adhesive provides high-strength permanent retention, it is best suited to joints that should remain locked throughout normal service. Assemblies requiring regular adjustment or easy maintenance removal should use an appropriate low- or medium-strength LOCTITE threadlocker instead.
LOCTITE 2700 Threadlocker is based on dimethacrylate-ester chemistry and appears green before curing. It has a typical specific gravity of approximately 1.1 at 23°C and a cone-and-plate viscosity of approximately 450 mPa·s at 25°C, confirming its low-viscosity application profile.
The official product information lists a typical fixture time of approximately five minutes. After 24 hours of curing at 23°C, published breakaway torque is approximately 37 N·m on M10 steel nuts and black-oxide steel bolts and approximately 32 N·m on M10 zinc-flake-coated fasteners. Typical compressive shear strength on steel pins and collars is approximately 20 N/mm².
The listed service-temperature range is approximately -55°C to 150°C. Laboratory testing also demonstrates resistance to motor oil, water-glycol coolant, unleaded petrol, diesel fuel, brake fluid, acetone and ethanol under specified conditions. These values are typical technical references rather than guaranteed purchasing specifications.
Clean the internal and external threads with a compatible LOCTITE cleaning solvent and allow them to dry. Shake the product thoroughly before use. When curing is too slow because of inactive substrates, low temperatures or large thread clearances, LOCTITE SF 7471 or LOCTITE SF 7649 Activator may be applied and allowed to dry.
For through-hole assemblies, apply several drops around the bolt where the nut will engage. For blind holes, dispense the adhesive into the lower third of the internal threads. For larger threaded fittings, apply a continuous 360-degree bead while leaving the first thread free, then work the material into the thread profile.
Assemble and tighten the fastener to the specified torque before fixture strength develops. Remove uncured excess with LOCTITE SF 7063 or a similar cleaner. Permanent cured joints can be dismantled by applying localized heat to approximately 250°C and separating the components while hot.
LOCTITE 2700 Threadlocker combines permanent high-strength locking, rapid fixture development, low-viscosity thread wetting and dependable performance on stainless steel, plated metal and zinc-flake-coated fasteners. It is a professional solution for vibration-exposed assemblies that must remain securely locked throughout their operating life.
Store unopened packaging in a dry location, ideally between 8°C and 21°C. Review the official Henkel LOCTITE 2700 Technical Data Sheet and current Safety Data Sheet before qualification or production use. Explore our high-strength threadlockers for additional permanent fastener-locking solutions.
