LOCTITE 675 High Strength Retaining Compound is a professional anaerobic adhesive developed for securing close-fitting cylindrical metal components. Its low-viscosity green formula flows efficiently into narrow clearances, helping create a strong, uniform bond between shafts, hubs, bearings, bushings, sleeves, keyways, and splines. Designed for interference fits and close-fitting slip fits, it provides manufacturers and maintenance teams with a practical way to strengthen assemblies, reduce movement, and improve resistance to shock and vibration.
This one-component acrylic adhesive requires no mixing, which simplifies dispensing and reduces preparation time on production lines or during repair work. It cures anaerobically when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces and isolated from air. The slow-curing profile provides useful assembly time for positioning larger parts or completing press-fit operations before fixture strength develops.
LOCTITE 675 High Strength Retaining Compound has a very low viscosity that supports penetration into small gaps and detailed fitting areas. Henkel specifies a maximum diametrical clearance of 0.1 mm, making the product especially suitable for accurately machined components. Fixture time on steel is approximately 45 minutes, although actual curing speed depends on the substrate, temperature, bond gap, surface condition, and use of an activator.
Once cured, the adhesive develops high strength and helps distribute load across the entire bonded cylindrical surface. This can reduce stress concentration compared with relying only on keys, pins, or mechanical interference. It also fills microscopic surface irregularities, supporting reliable contact and helping prevent fretting, corrosion, loosening, and leakage in demanding assemblies.
The service temperature range extends from approximately -55°C to 150°C, allowing the bonded assembly to perform across many industrial environments. Typical applications include mounting bearings and bushings, reinforcing press fits, securing gears and pulleys, filling keyways and splines, and retaining sleeves or cylindrical inserts. The product is suitable for industrial machinery, electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, automotive components, heavy equipment, and general metalworking operations.
Its green color makes the adhesive easy to identify during dispensing, while positive fluorescence under ultraviolet light can support inspection in controlled production processes. The one-part format also helps reduce mixing errors and material waste, making it a convenient option for both manual assembly and repeatable industrial application.
For reliable bonding, clean and dry all mating surfaces before application. Remove oil, grease, machining fluid, rust, and loose contamination using a suitable industrial cleaner. Apply enough adhesive to cover the engagement area without creating excessive squeeze-out.
For slip-fitted parts, apply the adhesive around the shaft and the leading edge of the hub, then assemble with a rotating motion to spread the material evenly. For press-fitted components, coat both mating surfaces before pressing the parts together. Keep the assembly in its final position until adequate fixture strength is achieved.
On passive metals, at low temperatures, or where faster curing is required, a compatible LOCTITE activator may be considered. Because an activator can affect cure speed and final performance, users should test the complete process on the actual materials before full production. Bond strength also depends on joint design, clearance, cleanliness, and operating conditions.
LOCTITE 675 High Strength Retaining Compound is an efficient choice for buyers who need dependable retention without redesigning existing cylindrical components. Its combination of low viscosity, high cured strength, extended working time, and broad operating-temperature capability supports durable industrial assemblies. For best results, follow the latest Henkel technical data sheet and confirm product suitability through application testing.
