The pre-applied coating is especially suitable for plated and stainless-steel fasteners used in automotive, transportation, machinery, appliance, and industrial equipment production. During installation, the mechanical action of thread engagement activates the two-part system. The material then cures anaerobically between close-fitting metal threads, creating a high-strength connection that helps prevent loosening caused by shock and vibration.
Because the product is already present on the fastener, operators do not need to open a bottle, dispense liquid, or visually judge the correct application amount at the final assembly station. This can support faster line speeds, lower the risk of spills, reduce workstation maintenance, and provide more consistent coverage from one fastener to the next. The dry coating also makes treated parts easier to package, count, transport, and feed through suitable automated assembly equipment.
LOCTITE DRI 204 Pre-Applied Threadlocker is designed for demanding threaded assemblies such as carburetor screws, transmission nuts, cylinder-head bolts, truck axle bolts, tower bolts, transmission fasteners, pipe plugs, and threaded fittings. Once cured, the material not only locks the fastener but can also provide thread-sealing performance, helping reduce potential leakage paths through the threaded connection.
Henkel identifies this product as a pre-applied alternative to high-strength liquid threadlockers such as LOCTITE 262, LOCTITE 263, LOCTITE 268, and LOCTITE 271. This makes it valuable for OEMs that want high-strength threadlocking performance without adding liquid-adhesive dispensing at the point of assembly. Final suitability should be confirmed using the actual fastener finish, thread geometry, installation torque, service fluids, and production conditions.
LOCTITE DRI 204 is generally applied through a controlled customer-parts processing operation rather than dispensed directly by the end user. Fasteners should be coated according to approved procedures so the film thickness, coated thread length, drying, storage, and activation performance remain consistent. Treated fasteners should be protected from contamination, physical damage, and unsuitable storage conditions before assembly.
Production engineers should validate installation torque, breakaway torque, cure development, sealing performance, metal-finish compatibility, and service conditions. Because this is a high-strength locking product, future maintenance and disassembly requirements should also be considered during assembly design.
