Outdoor joints are continuously exposed to sunlight, rain, temperature changes, vibration, and material movement. Sikaflex 521 UV Adhesive Sealant cures through atmospheric moisture to form a flexible elastomeric seal that helps maintain joint integrity under changing service conditions. Its strong resistance to ageing and weathering makes it suitable for body seams, panel joints, roof details, equipment housings, ventilation systems, exterior trims, and other areas requiring long-term sealing performance.
The product is available in white, grey, and black. It can also be overpainted and sanded after curing, supporting neat finishing and easier integration into production or repair processes.
Sikaflex 521 UV Adhesive Sealant is used in transportation, caravan and motorhome production, specialty vehicles, marine equipment, HVAC systems, appliances, industrial enclosures, and general manufacturing. It can seal overlaps, corners, joints, gaps, and penetrations while providing elastic adhesion between compatible materials.
The formulation usually bonds to many substrates without special pretreatment, although actual adhesion depends on surface condition, coating type, environmental exposure, and joint design. Professional users should test original materials before production, especially plastics or coated surfaces that may be prone to stress cracking.
The uncured material has a density of approximately 1.4 kg/L and develops a skin in about 30 minutes at 23°C and 50% relative humidity. After curing, it provides a Shore A hardness of approximately 40, tensile strength of about 1.8 MPa, tear propagation resistance of approximately 5.5 N/mm, and elongation at break of around 400%.
Its normal service-temperature range is approximately -50°C to 90°C, with short-term resistance up to 140°C for four hours and 150°C for one hour. These values may vary with application conditions and should be confirmed against the current local product data sheet.
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, dust, moisture, and loose contamination. Apply the sealant between 5°C and 40°C, with an optimum substrate and product temperature of 15°C to 25°C. It may be dispensed using manual, pneumatic, or electric piston guns, as well as suitable pump systems.
Tooling and finishing should be completed within the skin time. Cure speed depends on humidity, temperature, bead size, and joint geometry, while low-temperature conditions may slow curing. Uncured material can be removed from equipment using an appropriate Sika cleaner, while cured material requires mechanical removal.
Sikaflex 521 UV Adhesive Sealant is commonly supplied in 300 ml cartridges, 600 ml unipacks, and 23-liter pails, subject to regional availability.
